The Atmospheric Chemistry of GJ 1214b: Photochemistry and Clouds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Recent observations of the transiting super-Earth GJ 1214b reveal that its atmosphere may be hydrogen-rich or water-rich in nature, with clouds or hazes potentially affecting its transmission spectrum in the optical and very-near-IR.

Photocaged Oxytocin and Vasopressin Probes to Decipher Neuropeptide Signalling With High Spatiotemporal Resolution

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
Novel and biocompatible photoactivatable oxytocin and vasopressin probes, utilising state‐of‐the‐art photocages, remain inactive in the dark. Light exposure facilitates rapid spatiotemporal receptor activation and phospholipase C (PLC)‐mediated downstream signalling. Figure created in https://BioRender.com.

On the abundance of non-cometary HCN on Jupiter

open access: yes, 2010
Using one-dimensional thermochemical/photochemical kinetics and transport models, we examine the chemistry of nitrogen-bearing species in the Jovian troposphere in an attempt to explain the low observational upper limit for HCN.

Photochemical transformation of perfluoroalkyl acid precursors in water using engineered nanomaterials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The production of perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) has been phased out over recent decades; however, no significant decline in their environmental concentrations has been observed.

Photolysis of Organic Disulphides [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1948
THE reactions following light absorption by pure organic disulphides in solution have not been studied, although the reactions are of great importance in the chemistry of wool, affecting both felting and shrinkage of the wool1,2. Similar reactions occur in irradiated milk3 and in petrol4.

Mapping the Reactivity of the C═C Bond of Cyclic Enol Ether Derivatives of Sugars: Nucleophilicity Parameters of Glycals

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
Endo or Exo? The first quantitative kinetic mapping of the nucleophilic reactivity of endo‐ and exo‐glycal compounds highlighted that endo‐glycals are typically 102 times less reactive than their corresponding parent cyclic enol ethers while exo‐glycals are 103 more nucleophilic. This experimental and computational structure–reactivity study highlights

The preservation of atmospheric nitrate in snow at Summit, Greenland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
There is great interest in using nitrate NO3 isotopic composition in ice cores to track the history of precursor nitrogen oxides (NOx = NO + NO2) in the atmosphere.

Photolysis of 3-hydroxyisoxazoles.

open access: yesAgricultural and Biological Chemistry, 1974
Photolysis of 3-hydroxy-5-phenylisoxazole in methanol with a low-pressure mercury lamp afforded 5-phenyl-4-oxazolin-2-one, together with small amounts of benzoic acid and benzoylacetamide. Similarly, 3-hydroxy-5-methylisoxazole in distilled water afforded 5-methyl-4-oxazolin-2-one as the major product.
