Optical surface photometry of a sample of disk galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2001
This work presents the structural decomposition of a sample of 11 disk galaxies, which span a range of different morphological types. The U, B, V, R, and I photometric information given in Paper I (color and color-index images and luminosity, ellipticity, and position-angle profiles) has been used to decide what types of components form the galaxies ...

The THESEUS Space Mission and the Infrared Telescope Calibration Unit

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Transient High‐Energy Sky and Early Universe Surveyor (THESEUS) is an ESA M7 mission concept currently in Phase A, designed to exploit gamma‐ray bursts to probe the early Universe while advancing multi‐messenger and time‐domain astrophysics. To achieve its ambitious goals, THESEUS will combine wide‐band x‐ray and gamma‐ray monitors with an

New Astronomical Observatory Design for the Detection and Tracking of Satellite Objects: The Satellite Robotic Observatory (SRO)

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Robotic Astronomical Observatories (RAOs) have provided very good results in different research projects in astrophysics/astronomy. Their applications in the detection, tracking, and identification of near-Earth objects have contributed to the ...

Estimating the spatial behavior of fiber photometry across different brain regions

open access: yes, 2021
We describe a method to characterize the spatial behavior of fiber photometry signals across different mouse brain regions, highly differentiating in cortex, hippocampus and ...

Optical Photometry of the GRB 010222 Afterglow

open access: yes, 2001
The optical afterglow of GRB 010222 was observed using the recently installed 2-m telescope at the Indian Astronomical Observatory, Hanle, and the telescopes at the Vainu Bappu Observatory, Kavalur, beginning ~ 0.6 day after the detection of the event.

Feasibility Study for Application of Digitized Henize Mt. Wilson Michigan Southern Sky Hα$$ \boldsymbol{\alpha} $$ Survey Low‐Dispersive Spectral Plates for Searches for Anomalous and Highly Redshifted Objects

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The goal of this study is to confirm the feasibility of the use of digitized low dispersive MtWilson Michigan Southern Sky Hα$$ \alpha $$ survey astronomical photographic plates for modern astrophysical research. The detection of highly redshifted objects, such as early galaxies and quasars, is fundamental to understanding the universe's ...

Optical and Near‐Infrared Photometry of Distant Galaxy Clusters

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, 2002
We present optical and near-infrared photometry of 45 clusters of galaxies at 0.1 < z < 1.3. Galaxy catalogs in each cluster were defined at the longest wavelenth available, generally the K-band, down to approximately two magnitudes below M*. We include finding chart images of the band used for catalog definition.

Hidden No More: Spotlight on Tidal Disruption Events in Active Galactic Nuclei

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Tidal disruption events (TDEs) are typically discovered in previously quiescent galaxies. However, earlier studies have revealed a handful of TDEs occurring in pre‐existing active galactic nuclei (AGN). We discuss AT2019aalc, a promising TDE candidate in an AGN, and compare it to similar sources.
