Multiplexed photon-counting detectors
SPIE Proceedings, 2008ABSTRACT We discuss a scheme for a photon-counting detection system that overcomes the difficulties of photon-counting at extremely high rates. Our method uses an array of N detectors and a 1-by- N optical switch with a control circuit to direct input light to live detectors.

Self-powered perovskite photon-counting detectors
Nature, 2023Metal-halide perovskites (MHPs) have been successfully exploited for converting photons to charges or vice versa in applications of solar cells, light-emitting diodes and solar fuels1–3, for which all these applications involve strong light. Here we show that self-powered polycrystalline perovskite photodetectors can rival the commercial silicon ...

Advanced Neuroimaging With Photon-Counting Detector CT
Investigative Radiology, 2023Abstract Photon-counting detector computed tomography (PCD-CT) is an emerging technology and promises the next step in CT evolution. Photon-counting detectors count the number of individual incoming photons and assess the energy level of each of them. These mechanisms differ substantially from conventional energy-integrating detectors.

Clinical applications of photon counting detector CT
European Radiology, 2023The X-ray detector is a fundamental component of a CT system that determines the image quality and dose efficiency. Until the approval of the first clinical photon-counting-detector (PCD) system in 2021, all clinical CT scanners used scintillating detectors, which do not capture information about individual photons in the two-step detection process. In

The technical development of photon-counting detector CT
European Radiology, 2023Since 1971 and Hounsfield's first CT system, clinical CT systems have used scintillating energy-integrating detectors (EIDs) that use a two-step detection process. First, the X-ray energy is converted into visible light, and second, the visible light is converted to electronic signals.

Photon counting detectors for Fabry-Perot interferometers
Applied Optics, 1989Sealed channel plate photomultipliers with multiple discrete anodes for use as photon counting detectors in the image plane of Fabry-Perot interferometers are described. The influence of design and construction on performance of completed devices is discussed. Effects on spatial resolution, lifetime, and counting efficiency are described.

Laser ranging and mapping with a photon-counting detector
Applied Optics, 1996We propose a new technique for remote sensing: photon-counting laser mapping. MicroChannel plate detectors with a crossed delay-line (MCP/CDL) readout combine high position accuracy and subnanosecond photon timing, at event rates of 10(6) detected photons per second and more.

Musculoskeletal imaging with a prototype photon-counting detector
European Radiology, 2011To test a digital imaging X-ray device based on the direct capture of X-ray photons with pixel detectors, which are coupled with photon-counting readout electronics. The chip consists of a matrix of 256 × 256 pixels with a pixel pitch of 55 μm. A monolithic image of 11.2 cm × 7 cm was obtained by the consecutive displacement approach. Images of embalmed

Photon-counting radiography with the gas microstrip detector
Physics in Medicine and Biology, 1999We have built a proof of-concept photon-counting x-ray imaging system using a Xe:CH4 gas microstrip detector (GMD) as the image receptor, and have used this system to demonstrate several advantages of photon counting over energy integration. Our experiments spanned x-ray spectra from 10 to 50 kVp and Xe:CH4 pressures from 1 to 4 atm.
