A Mechanistic View of the Light-Induced Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles Using Extracellular Polymeric Substances of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
In the current study, extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii and photon energy biosynthetically converted Ag+ to silver nanoparticles (AgNPs).

Aspherical photon and anti-photon surfaces

open access: yesPhysics Letters B, 2016
In this note we identify photon surfaces and anti-photon surfaces in some physically interesting spacetimes, which are not spherically symmetric. All of our examples solve physically reasonable field equations, including for some cases the vacuum Einstein equations, albeit they are not asymptotically flat.

Evaluation of the glottic surface dose in three‐dimensional conformal radiotherapy for early‐stage glottic cancer using a treatment planning system

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background In radiotherapy for early‐stage glottic cancer, evaluating the target surface dose at the glottic air–tissue boundary is crucial, as buildup effect can cause underdosing. The accuracy of dose evaluation in the surrounding tissues is affected by both the dose calculation algorithms and the accuracy of the Hounsfield unit values in ...

HIGH ENERGY PHOTON-PHOTON AND ELECTRON-PHOTON COLLISIONS [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Modern Physics A, 1998
The advent of a next linear e±e- collider and back-scatterd laser beams will allow the study of a vast array of high energy processes of the Standard Model through the fusion of real and virtual photons and other gauge bosons. As examples, I discuss virtual photon scattering γ*γ*→X in the region dominated by BFKL hard Pomeron exchange and report the ...

Assessing proton plans with three different beam delivery systems versus photon plans for head and neck tumors

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To compare plan quality among photon volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) and intensity‐modulated proton therapy (IMPT) with robustness using three different proton beam delivery systems with various spot size (σ) ranges: cyclotron‐generated proton beams (CPBs) (σ: 2.7–7.0 mm), linear accelerator proton beams (LPBs) (σ: 2.9–5.5 mm),

Transmission zone plates as analyzers for efficient parallel 2D RIXS-mapping

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
We have implemented and successfully tested an off-axis transmission Fresnel zone plate as spectral analyzer for resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS).

Photon-aided and photon-inhibited tunneling of photons [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review A, 2013
In light of the interest in the transport of single photons in arrays of waveguides, fiber couplers, photonic crystals, etc., we consider the quantum mechanical process of the tunneling of photons through evanescently or otherwise coupled structures.

Left hippocampus sparing model for glioblastoma radiotherapy by utilizing knowledge‐based planning and multi‐criteria optimization

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Results of a prospective, randomized controlled trial at our institute demonstrate an association between the dose to the left hippocampus and neurocognitive decline post‐radiotherapy for patients with glioblastoma. To minimize the dose to the left hippocampus, a left hippocampus sparing model was created using RapidPlan (RP) and multi‐

Putting the Photon into Photonics

open access: yesFrontiers in Optics 2016, 2016
Realising the disruptive applications offered by quantum photonics requires efficient production, processing, and detection of single photons. Here we review significant recent progress in efficient photon generation and processing-using quantum-dot systems-and discuss attractive near-term applications.
