Refraction and rightness in photonic crystals [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Express Vol. 13, 8596 (2005), 2006
We present a study on relation between the refraction and rightness effects in photonic crystals applied on a 2D square lattice photonic crystal. The plane wave (the band and equifrequency contour analyses) and FDTD calculations for both TM and TE modes revealed all possible refraction and rightness cases in photonic crystal structures in the first ...

Vivid Structural Coloration in Transparent MXene‐Cellulose Nanocrystals Composite Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Vivid structural coloration in reflectance and high transparency in transmittance modes are observed in biopolymer‐layered composite films. The ultrathin multilayered structures have unique optical appearance, near‐infrared bandgap, and strong optical reflection caused by alternating MXene and cellulose nanocrystals layers with high refractive index ...

MODELING OF MULTILAYER ULTRATHIN-FILM PHOTONIC CRYSTALS FOR SELECTIVE FILTERS

open access: yesDoklady Belorusskogo gosudarstvennogo universiteta informatiki i radioèlektroniki, 2019
The aim of the work was to study the optical properties of the one-dimensional photonic crystals from ultrathin alternating layers of titanium and silicon oxides with different order of alternating layers to form defective half-wave layers in the bulk of

Detection of Hemoglobin Concentration Based on Defective One-Dimensional Photonic Crystals

open access: yesPhotonics, 2022
The significance of the optical biosensor is its ability to detect biomolecules in their natural form. Among them, photonic crystal-based biosensors analyze the refractive index changes due to molecular interaction, and that is correlated to the sample ...

Advances in Radiative Heat Transfer: Bridging Far‐Field Fundamentals and Emerging Near‐Field Innovations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review synthesizes the evolution of radiative heat transfer, emphasizing the transition from far‐field to near‐field regimes. Traditional frameworks, such as Planck's law, are revisited alongside modern innovations like fluctuational electrodynamics. Applications span nanoscale thermal management, energy harvesting, and thermophotovoltaic systems.

Extrinsic photonic crystals [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2005
Doped semiconductors are intrinsically homogeneous media. However, by applying an external magnetic field that has a spatially periodic variation, doped semiconductors can behave extrinsically like conventional photonic crystals. We show this possibility theoretically by calculating the photonic band structures of a doped semiconductor under an ...

Scattering of light in photonic crystals [PDF]

open access: yesSPIE Proceedings, 2002
A new method is developed to calculate the scattering of light at the surface of a photonic crystal. The problem is solved in terms of virtual surface-current distributions and the calculation takes full advantage of the infinite-space plane-wave expansion method for obtaining the photonic band structure.

Circularly Polarized Perovskite Photodetector with Photocurrent Dissymmetry Factors of up to 1.95 Enabled by Liquid Crystal

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Photodetectors made using perovskite single crystals in combination with free‐standing cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) polymer films exhibit photocurrent dissymmetry factors up to 1.95 for 520 nm circularly polarized light (CPL) excitation. The CPL spectral response of the photodetector is tunable over a broad range of wavelengths by tuning the ...

Tin‐Based 2D/3D Perovskite Vertical Heterojunction for High‐Performance Synaptic Phototransistors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Phototransistors based on tin‐based 2D/3D perovskite heterostructures show an ultrahigh responsivity and detectivity at a low gate voltage across a broad wavelength region from ultraviolet to near‐infrared. The devices can replicate neuromorphic learning and remembering behaviors to light stimuli, in addition to electric depression and memory erasure ...
