Dual index properties of photonic crystal and its application in subwavelength focusing
Based on the two-dimensional dielectric wedge-shaped photonic crystal, we studied the existence of two kinds of equivalent refractive indexes (negative refractive index is −1, positive refractive index is 1.897) in the photonic crystal by means of fast ...

A lack of standard approaches for testing and reporting the performance of metal halide perovskites and organic semiconductor radiation detectors has resulted in inconsistent interpretation of performance parameters, impeding progress in the field. This Perspective recommends key metrics and experimental details, which are suggested for reporting in ...

Optical microcavities based on zero-group-velocity surface modes in photonic crystal slabs are studied. It is shown that high quality factors can be easily obtained for such microcavities in photonic crystal slabs.

Nanoscale quantum dot infrared sensors with photonic crystal cavity [PDF]
We report high performance infrared sensors that are based on intersubband transitions in nanoscale self-assembled quantum dots combined with a microcavity resonator made with a high-index-contrast two-dimensional photonic crystal.

Photonic Molecules in Photonic Crystals
We propose a photonic molecule consisting of multiple nanocavities in a photonic crystal and demonstrate its lasing and modal characteristics by finite-difference time-domain analysis and by experiments. In the analysis, we show that a point-shift defect and a point-missing defect have s- and p-orbital cavity modes, respectively, and that two adjacent ...

Dispersion in a Gas Filled Hollow Core Photonic Crystal Fiber
Hollow core photonic bandgap fibers provide a new geometry for the realization and enhancement of many nonlinear optical effects. Such fibers offer novel guidance and dispersion properties that provide an advantage over conventional fibers for various ...

This study uncovers the unexplored role of intermolecular interactions in multiphoton absorption in coordination polymers. By analyzing [Zn2tpda(DMA)2(DMF)0.3], it shows how the electronic coupling of the chromophores and confinement in the MOF enhance two‐and three‐photon absorption.

Graphene-based one-dimensional photonic crystal
A novel type of one-dimensional (1D) photonic crystal formed by the array of periodically located stacks of alternating graphene and dielectric stripes embedded into a background dielectric medium is proposed.

Exotic radiation from a photonic crystal excited by an ultra-relativistic electron beam [PDF]
We report the observation of an exotic radiation (unconventional Smith-Purcell radiation) from a one-dimensional photonic crystal. The physical origin of the exotic radiation is direct excitation of the photonic bands by an ultra-relativistic electron ...

Scattering of light in photonic crystals [PDF]
A new method is developed to calculate the scattering of light at the surface of a photonic crystal. The problem is solved in terms of virtual surface-current distributions and the calculation takes full advantage of the infinite-space plane-wave expansion method for obtaining the photonic band structure.
