Photonic crystal fiber coupler
Optics Letters, 2002Fiber couplers made with photonic crystal fibers (PCF) are reported. Two types of PCF were fabricated by means of stacking a group of silica tubes around a silica rod and drawing them. The fiber couplers were made by use of the fused biconical tapered method. With a fiber that had five hexagonally stacked layers of air holes, a 33/67 coupling ratio was

Highly Birefringent Photonic Crystal Fibers
Optics and Photonics News, 2000We report a strongly anisotropic photonic crystal fiber. Twofold rotational symmetry was introduced into a single-mode fiber structure by creation of a regular array of airholes of two sizes disposed about a pure-silica core. Based on spectral measurements of the polarization mode beating, we estimate that the fiber has a beat length of approximately 0.

AbstractReducing the complexity of opticalsystems emphasizes the need to increase the number of optical functions in as few modules as possible, making the system more compact and simple to operate. Optical functions such as light generation, frequency conversion, amplification, broadband transmission, wavelength filtering and interfacing to the ...

Topological Photonic Crystal Fiber
Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 2022Despite recent progress in topological photonics, a challenge remains to realise topological states in a scalable platform. Here we fabricate optical fiber characterized by a topological invariant and demonstrate protected supermode propagation over 106 wavelengths.

A brief review of three specially designed types of photonic crystal fiber (PCF) that we recently developed for high performance devices is presented. The first is absolutely single polarization PCF (ASPF), which guides only one polarization mode, the second is dispersion-flattened polarization maintaining PCF for Supercontinuum generation, and the ...

Elliptical-hole photonic crystal fibers
Optics Letters, 2001We study the dispersive properties of photonic crystal fibers (PCF's) with elliptical air holes. The unusual guidance of PCF leads to novel behavior of the birefringence, group-velocity walk-off, and dispersion parameters, including the possibility of zero walk-off with high birefringence in the single-mode regime. A number of these effects are closely

Liquid crystal photonic crystal fiber
Frontiers in Optics 2004/Laser Science XXII/Diffractive Optics and Micro-Optics/Optical Fabrication and Testing, 2004A new class of hybrid photonic crystal fibers infiltrated with liquid crystals offers novel functionalities and ultimately takes full advantage of the different waveguiding effects demonstrated today. Among the most interesting possibilities, we demonstrate 'distributed' tunable filter and switching functionalities operating by the photonic bandgap ...

Diffractive photonic crystal fiber
SPIE Proceedings, 2003In the present report we propose an innovative concept for effective diffractive wave guiding of optical (infrared, visible and X-rays) beams based on the effect of diffractive multifocal focusing of radiation (DMFR). The optical DMFR effect, predicted earlier by theory, on a bicomponent diffraction system, has recently been confirmed experimentally ...
