Simple method for characterization of photonic crystal fibers
We report on our experimental characterization of index-guiding photonic crystal fibers (PCF) from their far field intensity distribution. The algorithm presented below makes it possible to determine the geometrical parameters of the PCF (core diameter,

Vortex solitons in photonic crystal fibers
We demonstrate the existence of vortex soliton solutions in photonic crystal fibers. We analyze the role played by the photonic crystal fiber defect in the generation of optical vortices.

Hybrid photonic-crystal fiber [PDF]
This article offers an extensive survey of results obtained using hybrid photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) which constitute one of the most active research fields in contemporary fiber optics. The ability to integrate novel and functional materials in solid- and hollow-core PCFs through various post-processing methods has enabled new directions towards ...

Biomimetic Iridescent Skin: Robust Prototissues Spontaneously Assembled from Photonic Protocells
Uniform nanoparticles are induced to form arrays (photonic crystals) in the cores of biopolymer capsules, endowing these ‘protocells’ with structural color. These protocells are then assembled into large self‐standing objects, i.e., prototissues, with robust mechanical properties as well as iridescent optical properties.

Testing of highly doped and photonic crystal optical fibers
The paper presents optical measurements – spectral loss, OTDR and PMD, temperature cycling and mechanical tests – bending, twist and crush, performed on Yb-doped single mode fibers and small-core photonic crystal fibers (PCF).

Electroactive Liquid Crystal Elastomers as Soft Actuators
Electroactive liquid crystal elastomers (eLCEs) can be actuated via electromechanical, electrochemical, or electrothermal effects. a) Electromechanical effects include Maxwell stress, electrostriction, and the electroclinic effect. b) Electrochemical effects arise from electrode redox reactions.

Photonic Crystal Fibers for Sensing Applications
This article reviews the recent progress in optical sensors using photonic crystal fiber (PCF) technology, which is newly adopted beyond conventional optical fibers (OFs) due to their unique geometric structures. PCFs have some exceptional properties. It
