Coupled Bilayer Photonic Crystal Slab Electro-Optic Spatial Light Modulators

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2017
We demonstrate here a surface-normal ultracompact Fano resonance electro-optic spatial light modulator employing a stacked photonic crystal membrane capacitor-like structure.

Long‐Range Exciton Energy Transfer in Two‐Dimensional Materials

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
This review highlights recent advances in long‐range exciton energy transfer within planar 2D‐material architectures. It emphasizes the emergence of self‐hybridized excitonpolaritons, exciton coupling to surface plasmon polaritons and plasmonic lattices, and the role of dipoledipole transfer pathways in enabling efficient nanoscale energy transport ...

A General Framework for Knowledge Integration in Machine Learning for Electromagnetic Scattering Using Quasinormal Modes

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Neural networks can accelerate modeling and inverse design of electromagnetic devices by several orders of magnitude, but usually require large amounts of data to train. This work demonstrates that integrating knowledge about quasinormal modes into the network architecture reduces the required amount of training data significantly, while simultaneously

Synthesis of Core–Shell Te@Se Quantum Dots and Their Broadband Photodetector Performance in Low Concentration Electrolytes

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Te@Se core–shell heterojunction quantum dots (QDs) are synthesized by a two‐step strategy via combining liquid‐phase exfoliation and epitaxial growth. As active materials in photoelectrochemical photodetectors, Te@Se QDs exhibit excellent photo‐response performance in low‐concentration electrolytes and deionized water.

Topological Photonic Devices and Circuits at Terahertz Frequencies

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
This review examines how 3D topological insulators and emerging topological photonic phases enable robust, low‐loss and defect‐immune terahertz devices. Fundamental properties, device implementations and topological transport mechanisms are surveyed, revealing new opportunities for reconfigurable, high‐performance THz components and scalable ...

Uncovering Exotic Topological Quantum States in Pure and Magnetically‐Doped Pyrite OsS2

open access: yesAdvanced Quantum Technologies, EarlyView.
Pyrite‐structured OsS2 is identified as a fragile topological insulator with an unprecedented 602 meV bandgap, featuring helical surface states and van Hove singularities amenable to ARPES verification. Magnetic doping with Pd, Fe, Ni, or Co induces phase transitions to strong topological insulators, semimetals, 3D quantum anomalous Hall insulators ...

'Hexagon-type' photonic crystal slabs based on SOI [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
In this paper we discuss the design of a novel category of photonic crystal slabs (PCS) and as an example, we consider structures based on SOI wafers. Fabrication issues related to lithographic accuracy are addressed, too.

Vertical beaming of wavelength-scale photonic crystal resonators

open access: yes, 2006
We report that $> 80%$ of the photons generated inside a photonic crystal slab resonator can be funneled within a small divergence angle of $\pm 30^\circ$. The far-field radiation properties of a photonic crystal slab resonant mode are modified by tuning
