Photonic-Band Structure of Magnetic Photonic Crystal Slabs

2005 Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference Proceedings, 2006
In this paper, we introduce a rigorous computational method for the evaluation of the band structure of magnetic photonic crystal (MPC) slabs. With the help of this method, the full-wave analysis of the structure can be reduced to the analysis of an equivalent multi-conductor transmission line.

Correlation Effects in Disordered Metallic Photonic Crystal Slabs

Physical Review Letters, 2007
We analyze the influence of correlations on the optical properties of disordered metallic photonic crystal slabs experimentally and theoretically. Different disorder models with different nearest-neighbor correlations are considered. We present a theory that allows us to quantitatively calculate the optical properties of the different samples.

Photonic crystal slab with layered elements

SPIE Proceedings, 2011
Abstract We introduce the simulation of a photonic crystal slab with a square lattice, whose basis elements are layered cylinders of an averaged refractive index . We compare it with a similar photonic crystal with a basis of the same size and a refractive index matching to the average of the layered ones.

Fabrication of Flexible Photonic Crystal Slabs

MRS Proceedings, 2014
ABSTRACTTwo methods for the fabrication of flexible and stretchable photonic crystal slabs are demonstrated and compared. In both cases a periodically nanostructured polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) membrane is used as substrate. The first method is based on oblique-angle vapor deposition of SiO as a high refractive index material onto the nanostructured ...

Suspended photonic crystal slabs for biosensing

SPIE Proceedings, 2010
Label-free optical biosensors based on photonic crystal slabs offer high sensitivity and simplified coupling to incoming free-space radiation. Biosensing results from detecting shifts in guided resonance frequency spectral location based on changes in index of refraction due to analytes binding at the PC slab surface. We have evaluated biosensing for

Photon Dynamics in Coupled-Cavities in Photonic Crystal Slabs

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics 2012, 2012
We present a formalism to model the coupling of photons and quantum dots in coupled cavities in photonic crystal slabs using a quasimode-based master equation. We show the effects of quasimode non-orthogonality.

Guided modes in photonic crystal slabs

Physical Review B, 1999
We analyze the properties of two-dimensionally periodic dielectric structures that have a band gap for propagation in a plane and that use index guiding to confine light in the third dimension. Such structures are more amenable to fabrication than photonic crystals with full three-dimensional band gaps, but retain or approximate many of the latter's ...

Photonic crystal slotted slab waveguides

Photonics and Nanostructures - Fundamentals and Applications, 2008
We report on the fabrication of photonic crystal waveguides in SOI that comprise an air-slot in the centre. The slot serves to confine suitably polarised optical radiation (H-polarisation) and due to its small size, provides extremely high field intensity values out with the high index material.

Fano resonances of photonic crystal slabs

ACOFT/AOS 2006 - Australian Conference on Optical Fibre Technology/Australian Optical Society, 2006
A Bloch mode theory for diffraction of plane waves by planar PC slabs is developed. The theory provides physical insight into the origin of Fano resonances, allowing a simple pole model to be deduced rigorously.

Coupling into photonic crystal slab waveguides

Postconference Digest Quantum Electronics and Laser Science, 2003. QELS., 2003
An adiabatic taper method is presented for coupling light into photonic crystal defect waveguides in a square lattice of circular dielectric rods. The taper consists of two coupling stages.
