Half-disordered photonic crystal slabs
Applied Optics, 2016Optical transmission spectra of finite-thickness slabs of two-dimensional triangular-lattice photonic crystals of air holes in a dielectric matrix with various concentrations of randomly located vacancies (absent air holes) are studied. We focus on structures in which only one half of the structure-the incidence or transmission side-is disordered.

Polymer photonic crystal slab waveguides
SPIE Proceedings, 2001Finite two-dimensional (2d) polymer photonic crystal (PC) slab waveguides were fabricated from a benzocyclobutene polymer on a low refractive index substrate from Teflon. Square and triangular air hole lattices were realized by electron beam lithography and reactive ion etching.

Design of annular photonic crystal slabs
Optics Letters, 2008We present the design of realistic annular photonic-crystal (APC) structures of finite thickness aiming to obtain a complete photonic bandgap (PBG). The APC is composed of dielectric rods and circular air holes in a triangular lattice such that each rod is centered within each hole.

Green’s function for photonic crystal slabs
Physical Review E, 2005Green's tensors for photonic crystal (PC) slabs are numerically solved by the coupled-dipole approximation (CDA) technique. The obtained components of Green's tensors satisfy discontinuous or continuous conditions at interfaces of scatterers. This shows that the CDA technique is very applicable to studying the properties of PC slabs.

Slab polymer photonic crystals
SPIE Proceedings, 2004Photonic crystals enable a reduction in the size of current photonic devices by virtue of forbidden propagation, except along engineered lines of defects. Furthermore, propagation above the band-gap has unique characteristics such as the superprism effect.

Photonic crystal slotted slab waveguides
Photonics and Nanostructures - Fundamentals and Applications, 2008We report on the fabrication of photonic crystal waveguides in SOI that comprise an air-slot in the centre. The slot serves to confine suitably polarised optical radiation (H-polarisation) and due to its small size, provides extremely high field intensity values out with the high index material.

Correlation Effects in Disordered Metallic Photonic Crystal Slabs
Physical Review Letters, 2007We analyze the influence of correlations on the optical properties of disordered metallic photonic crystal slabs experimentally and theoretically. Different disorder models with different nearest-neighbor correlations are considered. We present a theory that allows us to quantitatively calculate the optical properties of the different samples.

Coherent Thermal Antenna Using a Photonic Crystal Slab
Physical Review Letters, 2006We show that a photonic crystal film can emit coherent thermal radiation. We demonstrate the key role of leaky waves existing at the air-photonic crystal interface. The frequency and direction of emission depend on the lattice parameters. This paves the way towards the design of coherent infrared antennas.

Photonic-Band Structure of Magnetic Photonic Crystal Slabs
2005 Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference Proceedings, 2006In this paper, we introduce a rigorous computational method for the evaluation of the band structure of magnetic photonic crystal (MPC) slabs. With the help of this method, the full-wave analysis of the structure can be reduced to the analysis of an equivalent multi-conductor transmission line.

The radiational eigenmodes in photonic crystal slabs are classified into guided and leaky modes. The former are genuine eigenmodes with infinite lifetimes, while the latter are quasi-eigenmodes with finite lifetimes. We will show that the dispersion curves of photonic crystal slabs are well represented by the folding of those in uniform dielectric ...
