Photonic crystal slotted slab waveguides

Photonics and Nanostructures - Fundamentals and Applications, 2008
We report on the fabrication of photonic crystal waveguides in SOI that comprise an air-slot in the centre. The slot serves to confine suitably polarised optical radiation (H-polarisation) and due to its small size, provides extremely high field intensity values out with the high index material.

Correlation Effects in Disordered Metallic Photonic Crystal Slabs

Physical Review Letters, 2007
We analyze the influence of correlations on the optical properties of disordered metallic photonic crystal slabs experimentally and theoretically. Different disorder models with different nearest-neighbor correlations are considered. We present a theory that allows us to quantitatively calculate the optical properties of the different samples.

Coherent Thermal Antenna Using a Photonic Crystal Slab

Physical Review Letters, 2006
We show that a photonic crystal film can emit coherent thermal radiation. We demonstrate the key role of leaky waves existing at the air-photonic crystal interface. The frequency and direction of emission depend on the lattice parameters. This paves the way towards the design of coherent infrared antennas.

Photonic-Band Structure of Magnetic Photonic Crystal Slabs

2005 Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference Proceedings, 2006
In this paper, we introduce a rigorous computational method for the evaluation of the band structure of magnetic photonic crystal (MPC) slabs. With the help of this method, the full-wave analysis of the structure can be reduced to the analysis of an equivalent multi-conductor transmission line.

Photonic Crystal Slabs

2001
The radiational eigenmodes in photonic crystal slabs are classified into guided and leaky modes. The former are genuine eigenmodes with infinite lifetimes, while the latter are quasi-eigenmodes with finite lifetimes. We will show that the dispersion curves of photonic crystal slabs are well represented by the folding of those in uniform dielectric ...

Fabrication of Flexible Photonic Crystal Slabs

MRS Proceedings, 2014
ABSTRACTTwo methods for the fabrication of flexible and stretchable photonic crystal slabs are demonstrated and compared. In both cases a periodically nanostructured polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) membrane is used as substrate. The first method is based on oblique-angle vapor deposition of SiO as a high refractive index material onto the nanostructured ...

Two-Dimensional Photonic Crystal Slabs

2004
In this chapter we treat PC slabs such that the thickness is on the order of the wavelength of light. In this case we cannot treat the problem in terms of only plane waves with k parallel to the slab plane, so the situation is quite different from the 2D PC case. Essentially we need to treat the case in a 3D way, but in a way different also from the 3D

Research on Slab Photonic Crystal Waveguides

2007 International Nano-Optoelectronics Workshop, 2007
Coupling characteristics and gain performances of slab photonic crystal waveguides were investigated theoretically. The simulation results are reported in this paper.

Terahertz Tag Using Photonic-Crystal Slabs

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2018
To realize the concept of the Internet of Everything (IoE), which has attracted significant interest, information tags directly attached to objects constitute one of the key technologies. However, in terms of security and uniqueness, the current information tags are unsatisfactory.

Optical computing using photonic crystal slabs

Photonic and Phononic Properties of Engineered Nanostructures IX, 2019
We discuss the use of photonic crystal slab to accomplish a number of imaging processing tasks, including edge detection, image smoothing, white noise suppression and, suppression or extraction of periodic features. All these tasks involve filtering in the wavevector domain. Image filtering can be implemented electronically.
