Light‐Actuated Fiber‐Climbing Inchworm Robot Toward Endoluminal Navigation
A kirigami‐inspired soft inchworm robot harnesses optical energy from a customized side‐emitting optical fiber, guaranteeing its propulsion along the fiber body. The wavelength‐selective responsiveness of dye‐functionalized liquid crystal elastomers and the application of temporal illumination patterns enable sequential control of robot components. The

Low insertion loss modulator based on a vertically coupled photonic crystal resonator
We experimentally demonstrate a simple but more efficient technique to modulate and multiplex multiple WDM channels. Our design is based on a bus waveguide vertically coupled to multiple Photonic Crystal (PhC) resonator, each of which modulates an ...

Orbital Geometry‐Governed Response of Pressure‐Tunable Quantum Defects in hBN
Defects in hBN act as ultrasensitive quantum manometers when the energy of the intradefect optical transitions is modified by lattice compression. The orbital geometry of the electron wave functions governs how electron hopping and Coulomb interactions react uniquely to the reduction of the van der Waals gap and in‐plane compression, leading to robust ...

Modeling the optical properties of twisted bilayer photonic crystals
The twisted bilayer photonic crystals have near-zero group velocity over the Bouillon zone and provide access to light localization that is far out of the reach of conventional photonic crystals.

Computational studies of one and two-dimensional photonic microstructures [PDF]
This work is concerned with the study of photonic crystals and other topical photonic microstructures, whose optical properties are investigated by solving the Maxwell equations using appropriate theoretical and computational schemes, which are described.

Photon Confinement in Photonic Crystal Cavities [PDF]
In this thesis, the use of photonic crystal cavities for experiments in cavity quantum-electrodynamics is described. To this end, the propagation of light in photonic crystals, and the creation of cavities by making defects in the photonic crystal ...

We investigate how side‐chain chemistry and hydrogen bonding affect electrochemical doping in poly(propylenedioxythiophene) polymers. Replacing oligoether side chains with hydroxyl or carboxylic acid groups nearly triples electrochemical conductivity.

Defect modes in defective one dimensional parity-time symmetric photonic crystal
The introduction of defect layers into one-dimensional parity-time (PT) symmetric photonic crystals gives rise to resonances within the photonic bandgaps. These resonances can be effectively explained by our generalized temporal coupled mode theory.
