Physical and Methodological Perspectives on the Optical Properties of Biological Samples: A Review

open access: yesPhotonics, 2021
The optical properties of biological systems can be measured by imaging and microscopy methodologies. The use of X-rays, γ-radiation and electron microscopy provides information about the contents and functions of the systems. The need to develop imaging

Nanoscale Waveguide Beam Splitter in Quantum Technologies

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2022
Usually in quantum optics, the theory of large- and small-scale waveguide beam splitters is the same. In this paper, it is shown that the theory of the nanoscale waveguide beamsplitter has a significant difference from a similar device, but of a larger ...

Deformation mechanisms in a superelastic NiTi alloy: An in-situ high resolution digital image correlation study

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2020
An in-situ high resolution digital image correlation investigation during uniaxial tensile deformation reveals the recoverable and the non-recoverable strain mechanisms in a Ni51Ti49 alloy with a mean grain size of 35 μm. Recoverable strain is due to the

Histone Deacetylases and Their Potential as Targets to Enhance Tumour Radiosensitisation

open access: yesRadiation, 2022
In mammalian cells, genomic DNA is packaged with histone proteins and condensed into chromatin. To gain access to the DNA, chromatin remodelling is required that is enhanced through histone post-translational modifications, which subsequently stimulate ...

To Scatter a Photon by a Photon [PDF]

open access: bronzeAmerican Journal of Physics, 1966
This paper gives a more detailed description of the “x-ray-flashbulb” experiment for observing the scattering of light by light in vacuum. It is shown here that at least ten to twenty scattering events can be initiated by two x-ray flashbulbs, properly oriented and synchronized to flash together in an appropriate experimental arrangement.

Entanglement of the orbital angular momentum states of photons [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 2001
Entangled quantum states are not separable, regardless of the spatial separation of their components. This is a manifestation of an aspect of quantum mechanics known as quantum non-locality. An important consequence of this is that the measurement of the

Boson Sampling with 20 Input Photons and a 60-Mode Interferometer in a 10^{14}-Dimensional Hilbert Space. [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2019
Quantum computing experiments are moving into a new realm of increasing size and complexity, with the short-term goal of demonstrating an advantage over classical computers.

Significant-Loophole-Free Test of Bell's Theorem with Entangled Photons. [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2015
Local realism is the worldview in which physical properties of objects exist independently of measurement and where physical influences cannot travel faster than the speed of light.

VIRTUAL PHOTON–PHOTON SCATTERING [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Modern Physics: Conference Series, 2014
Based on analyticity, unitarity, and Lorentz invariance the contribution from hadronic vacuum polarization to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon is directly related to the cross section of e+e− → hadrons . We review the main difficulties that impede such an approach for light-by-light scattering and identify the required ingredients from ...
