On-demand generation of background-free single photons from a solid-state source [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
True on-demand high-repetition-rate single-photon sources are highly sought after for quantum information processing applications. However, any coherently driven two-level quantum system suffers from a finite re-excitation probability under pulsed ...

Robocasting of a Water‐Based Biopolymer/WO3 Nanopowder Paste as a Precursor to Tungsten Carbide Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a novel, additive manufacturing approach to produce complex, porous tungsten carbide structures using water‐based direct ink writing/robocasting. Leveraging a modified commercial printer and heat treatment, the process yields lightweight, electrically conductive 3D architectures capable of supporting a mechanical load.

Stochastic performance analysis of a time‐of‐arrival quantum random number generator

open access: yesIET Quantum Communication
The performance analysis of a quantum random number generator (QRNG), operating based on the interarrival time differences between consecutive photon detections from a coherent light source, is presented.

Atomic Source of Single Photons in the Telecom Band. [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2017
Single atoms and atomlike defects in solids are ideal quantum light sources and memories for quantum networks. However, most atomic transitions are in the ultraviolet-visible portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, where propagation losses in optical ...

Highly indistinguishable and strongly entangled photons from symmetric GaAs quantum dots [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
The development of scalable sources of non-classical light is fundamental to unlocking the technological potential of quantum photonics. Semiconductor quantum dots are emerging as near-optimal sources of indistinguishable single photons.

Photons in a ball [PDF]

open access: yesThe European Physical Journal C, 2015
The electromagnetic field inside a spherical cavity of large radius R is considered in the presence of stationary charge and current densities. R provides infra-red regularization while maintaining gauge invariance. The quantum ground state of physical photons forming the magnetic field is found to be a coherent state with a definite mean occupation ...

Direct Electron Detection Electron Energy‐Loss Spectroscopy: Speeding Up 2D Analytical In Situ Transmission Electron Microscopy for Aluminum Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Scanning transmission electron microscopy imaging techniques are an essential tool to document dynamic developments, such as precipitation in aluminum alloys, during in situ heating experiments using transmission electron microscopy. However, in many cases, chemical information is required to interpret complex nanoscale processes.
