Photophysical Properties of Ricin

Photochemistry and Photobiology, 2007
ABSTRACTThe molar absorption coefficient of ricin in phosphate‐buffered saline (PBS) at 279 nm was measured as (93 900 ± 3300) L mol−1 cm−1. The concentration of ricin was determined using amino acid analysis. The absorption spectrum of ricin was interpreted in terms of 69% contribution from absorption by tryptophan residues and 31% contribution from ...

Photophysical characterization of cinnamates

Photochemical & Photobiological Sciences, 2009
The photophysical properties of five methoxy-substituted 2-ethylhexylcinnamates were studied with experimental and theoretical methods. It was found that the fluorescence quantum yields varied strongly with the substitution pattern of the phenyl ring.

Photophysics

1996
This chapter examines photophysics. Several of the pathways for loss of electronic excitation do not lead to any chemical change. Instead, the energy is used in a physical process such as the emission of light as luminescence, or it becomes lost by quenching.

Photophysics of alloxazines on cellulose

Photochemical & Photobiological Sciences, 2002
We report the UV-Vis absorption, fluorescence and transient absorption spectra of selected methylalloxazines adsorbed on cellulose from a polar solvent. The ground-state properties of these probe molecules in the cellulose matrix are similar to those in polar protic solvents.

Ionization photophysics and spectroscopy of dicyanoacetylene

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2013
Photoionization of dicyanoacetylene was studied using synchrotron radiation over the excitation range 8–25 eV, with photoelectron-photoion coincidence techniques. The absolute ionization cross-section and detailed spectroscopic aspects of the parent ion were recorded.

Primary Photophysical Properties of Ofloxacin¶

Photochemistry and Photobiology, 2000
Steady-state fluorescence has been used to study the excited singlet state of ofloxacin (OFLX) in aqueous solutions. Fluorescence emission was found to be pH dependent, with a maximum quantum yield of 0.17 at pH 7. Two pKa*s of around 2 and 8.5 were obtained for the excited singlet state.

Photophysics of dibenzodioxocins

Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology A: Chemistry, 2006
Abstract The photophysics and photochemical reactivity of dibenzodioxocins (DBDO) was evaluated, considering experimental and theoretical data related to two model compounds, a phenolic and a non-phenolic and two theoretical analogues. Both compounds exhibit similar photophysical properties, influenced by solvent polarity.

Photophysics of CF3NO

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1981
We use laser spectroscopic methods to measure fluorescence lifetimes of CF3NO. These lifetimes correspond to radiationless decay from specific torsional and other vibrational levels of the S1 state of CF3NO. The lifetime data and collisional quenching studies are used to support a model of S1 internal conversion to S0, followed by dissociation to CF3 ...

Photophysical Studies on Antimalarial Drugs

Photochemistry and Photobiology, 1999
Abstract— Most drugs used in the treatment of malaria produce phototoxic side effects in both the skin and the eye. Cutaneous and ocular effects that may be caused by light include changes in skin pigmentation, corneal opacity, cataract formation and other visual disturbances including irreversible retinal damage (retinopathy) leading to blindness. The

PHOTOPHYSICS AND PHOTOCHEMISTRY OF PHOTOREACTIVATION

Photochemistry and Photobiology, 1977
Abstract— Photoreactivating enzyme (PRE) monomerizes cyclobutyl pyrimidine dimers formed in DNA by UV light (Λ < 300 nm). The enzyme requires near UV and visible wavelengths (300 < Λ < 600 nm) for activity. Possible mechanisms of action of the PRE are suggested by non‐enzymatic processes in which pyrimidine dimers are monomerized by UV and ...
