Accounts of Chemical Research, 2000
Polypeptides containing azobenzene or spiropyran units attached to the macromolecules respond to light or dark conditions giving reversible variations of their structure. In this Account we provide a short overview of current research in the field and describe the most significant experimental examples of photoresponse effects.

Photoresponsive Dendritic Monolayers
Advanced Materials, 2000Azobenzene derivatives are excellent candidates for optical switching systems, due to their facile and reversible photoisomerization. However, the chromophores are usually aggregated in Langmuir-Blodgett films, which suppresses this cis-trans isomerization.

Photoresponses in colorlessParamecium
Experientia, 1982Two species of colorlessParamecium, P. caudatum andP. tetraurelia, were suspended in a saline solution. They accumulated in the shaded region when they were introduced into a half-shaded glass tube and illuminated. 520 nm light was most effective in stimulating the accumulation.

Organic photoresponse materials and devices
Chem. Soc. Rev., 2012Organic photoresponse materials and devices are critically important to organic optoelectronics and energy crises. The activities of photoresponse in organic materials can be summarized in three effects, photoconductive, photovoltaic and optical memory effects.

In 1882 Engelmann carried out some of the earliest experiments on bacterial behavior, using a facultative photosynthetic bacterium, probably Chromatium, isolated from the Rhine outside his laboratory (Engelmann, 1883). I think it is fair to say that in the last one hundred years our understanding of photosynthetic eubacterial responses to light has not

Peptides Recognize Photoresponsive Targets
