Photosensitization by anticancer agents 21: New perylene- and aminonaphthoquinones

Free Radical Biology and Medicine, 1996
Hypocrellins are under intensive investigation as photosensitizing agents for photodynamic therapy (PDT). A recent advance in the synthesis of hypocrellin congeners resulted in the production of an amino-substituted hypocrellin-B, and its "half chromophore." Both compounds exhibit stronger red light absorption than previously reported hypocrellins, and,

[Phototherapy of tumors using photosensitizing agents].

Eksperimental'naia onkologiia, 1988
The experimental and clinical data on a new method of cancer treatment--photodestruction of tumours treated with the photosensitizing preparations--are reviewed. Particular emphasis is given to porphyrin compounds. The problems are considered dealing with accumulation of these compounds in cells and tissues, with the mechanism of photoalteration of ...

Porphyrins as Antimicrobial Photosensitizing Agents

2013
The emergence of microbial resistance to many of the major classes of antimicrobial drugs is becoming an increasing problem in the clinic and environmental areas. As such, the discovery of drugs with novel modes of action will be vital to meet the threats created by the emergence of resistance.

SULFANILAMIDE: A PHOTOSENSITIZING AGENT OF THE SKIN

Journal of the American Medical Association, 1937
In spite of the intensive use of sulfanilamide in the last year as a chemotherapeutic agent in beta-hemolytic streptococcus infections, clinical reports have noted a relatively low incidence of untoward reactions. Our observations of more than 300 patients in the erysipelas wards of Bellevue Hospital (service of Dr.

GABAergic agents as anticonvulsants in baboons with photosensitive epilepsy

Neuroscience Letters, 1984
GABAergic agents have been evaluated for acute anticonvulsant activity in baboons, Papio papio with photosensitive epilepsy. The potent GABAA agonists muscimol and THIP are proconvulsant. (-)Baclofen, 2 mg/kg suppresses myoclonic responses; higher doses facilitate EEG paroxysmal activity.

Contact Photosensitivity Dermatitis From Sun-protective Agent

Archives of Dermatology, 1969
A popular commercial sunscreening agent containing the ultraviolet-absorbing chemical glycerylp-aminobenzoate was found to be a photosensitizer having produced a severe dermatitis in a patient who applied it prior to sun exposure. Three possible mechanisms of action are briefly discussed: photoallergy, phototoxicity, and photoaugmentation.
