Abstract In order to study the relative contributions of the autocatalytic increase in the level of substrates and the light activation of enzymes to the control of the induction phase or “lag” in wheat chloroplasts, we measured the light-induced reductive activation of fructose 1,6-bisphosphatase, phosphoglycerate kinase, NADP + -dependent ...

1. Measurements were made of photosynthetic CO2 fixation and O2 evolution by spinach chloroplasts isolated in sorbitol media containing 2-(N-morpholino)ethanesulphonate (MES). 2. The chloroplasts isolated in MES-sorbitol media exhibited induction phenomena which were similar to those shown by chloroplasts isolated in orthophosphate-sugar mixtures ...

Primary Photosynthetic Induction Phenomena in Wheat
Physiologia Plantarum, 1967AbstractThe induction phenomena of photosynthesis in leaves of wheat were studied with a Beckman oxygen sensor. By special treatment prior to illumination, e.g. long dark and anaerobic periods the oxygen evolution could be divided into two parts, one consisting of two or three transients appearing under the first minute of illumination and one ...

Photosynthetic induction of dual phosphate uptake kinetics inPorphyra umbilicalis
Physiologia Plantarum, 1994The rates of phosphate uptake and photosynthesis were simultaneously determined in order to investigate the relationship between phosphate use and photosynthesis.Porphyra umbilicalis(L.) Kützing exhibited two different phosphate uptake kinetics. The first one followed a saturation model and was observed in light (maximum phosphate uptake rate. Vmax= 94

Plants grown in the field experience sharp changes in irradiation due to shading effects caused by clouds, other leaves, etc. The excess of absorbed light energy is dissipated by a number of mechanisms including cyclic electron transport, photorespiration, and Mehler-type reactions. This protection is essential for survival but decreases photosynthetic

Natural genetic variation of the photosynthetic induction response to fluctuating light environment
Current Opinion in Plant Biology, 2019Field-grown plants experience fluctuating light intensity for periods extending from seconds to hours because of cloud movements and self-shading. When full light intensity returns after shading, the net CO2 assimilation rate in leaves does not reach its maximum value immediately, but rises gradually over several minutes to approach a new steady state.

A preliminary study on the photosynthetic induction response ofQuercus serrata seedlings
Journal of Plant Research, 1993To understand the sunfleck utilization of leaves in heliophilic trees within grass canopies, we studied the photosynthetic induction response ofQuercus serrata seedlings grown for 5 months in different microsites in aMiscanthus sinensis canopy. Two phases, a rapid increase in CO2 uptake and a following slow increase, were recognizabie in the time ...

Photosynthetic Functions and Induction of Etiolation in Chloroembryos of Dolichos lablab L.
Journal of Plant Physiology, 1986Summary The regulation of chlorophyll biosynthesis was blocked in chloroembryos of Dolichos lablab through blockage of light to the fruit resulting in the transformation of chloroembryos (green embryos) into etiolated embryos. Aminolevulinic acid (ALA) was not blocked from synthesis in etiolated embryos as evidenced by a comparable level of ALA in ...

An empirical model was developed to simulate photosynthetic responses of leaves to highly fluctuating light, with a special focus on the functional role of photosynthetic induction and capacity. Based on diurnal courses of light as input data, which were recorded at natural plant sites, we applied this model to simulate the corresponding course of net ...

Fluorescence Induction in a Thylakoid System Reconstituted for Photosynthetic Carbon Assimilation
1984Upon illumination of leaves, the yield of fluorescence from chlorophyll decreases from a maximum (P) reached within ls to a steady state (T) several minutes later. During the PT quenching a series of transients are observed, a characteristic induction curve being described as PS1M1S2M2...SnMnT e.g. (Quick & Horton, these proceedings).
