Phytomelatonin in stress management in agriculture

open access: yesHeliyon, 2021
Melatonin was discovered as a pineal gland hormone in animals and is now more significantly known as a signaling molecule in plants' biotic and abiotic stressors.

Inhibitors of Photosynthetic Electron Transport. The Properties of Diazidodialkylbenzoquinones

open access: yesZeitschrift für Naturforschung C, 1979
Abstract The potential photoaffinity reagents 2,5-diazido-3-methyl-6-isopropyl-1,4-benzoquinone (DAZMIB) and 2,5-diazido-3,6-dimethyl-1,4-benzoquinone (DAZDMQ), which are analogs of the well-known inhibitor 2,5-dibromo-3-methyl-6-isopropyl-1,4-benzoquinone (DBMIB), block photosynthetic electron transport in spinach chloroplasts.

Origin and evolution of water oxidation before the last common ancestor of the Cyanobacteria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Photosystem II, the water oxidizing enzyme, altered the course of evolution by filling the atmosphere with oxygen. Here, we reconstruct the origin and evolution of water oxidation at an unprecedented level of detail by studying the phylogeny of all D1 ...

The ribosome assembly GTPase EngA is involved in redox signaling in cyanobacteria

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2023
Photosynthetic organisms must cope with environmental challenges, like those imposed by the succession of days and nights or by sudden changes in light intensities, that trigger global changes in gene expression and metabolism.

On a new inhibitor of photosynthetic electron-transport in isolated chloroplasts

open access: yesZeitschrift für Naturforschung B, 1970
A halogenated benzoquinone has been found to inhibit the photosynthetic electron transport system in isolated chloroplasts. 2·10-6ᴍ of dibromo-thymoquinone inhibit the Hill- reaction with NADP, methylviologen or anthraquinone to 100%, but do not effect the photoreduction of NADP at the expense of an artificial electron donor.

RNA-Seq Transcriptome Analysis of Potato with Differential Tolerance to Bentazone Herbicide

open access: yesAgronomy, 2021
Potato (Solanum tuberosum), an important food crop worldwide, is threatened by broadleaf weeds. Bentazone is an effective herbicide for controlling weeds; however, as a photosynthesis inhibitor, it can also affect potato plants.

Nitrogen Inhibitors Enhance Photosynthetic Potential by Delaying Maize Leaf Senescence Under Fertigation

open access: yesFood and Energy Security
Unreasonable nitrogen fertilizer use intensifies nitrogen losses, resulting in environmental contamination. Nitrification inhibitors and urease inhibitors are widely employed to reduce environmental pollution and enhance nitrogen use efficiency. However,

Physiological and Biochemical Responses of Sagittaria trifolia L. to Phytotoxic Ethyl Acetate Fungal Extract from Curvularia lunata Strain CLST-01

open access: yesPlants, 2023
Curvularia lunata (No. CLST-01), a fungal pathogen isolated from the threeleaf arrowhead (Sagittaria trifolia L.), has been proposed as a potential mycoherbicide for grass weeds.

Chloroplast damage induced by the inhibition of fatty acid synthesis triggers autophagy in chlamydomonas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Fatty acids are synthesized in the stroma of plant and algal chloroplasts by the fatty acid synthase complex. Newly synthesized fatty acids are then used to generate plastidial lipids that are essential for chloroplast structure and function.

Guard cell chloroplasts are essential for blue light-dependent stomatal opening in Arabidopsis.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Blue light (BL) induces stomatal opening through the activation of H+-ATPases with subsequent ion accumulation in guard cells. In most plant species, red light (RL) enhances BL-dependent stomatal opening.
