Structure and binding efficiency relations of QB site inhibitors of photosynthetic reaction centres*

open access: yesGeneral physiology and biophysics, 2015
Many herbicides employed in agriculture and also some antibiotics bind to a specific site of the reaction centre protein (RC) blocking the photosynthetic electron transport. Crystal structures showed that all these compounds bind at the secondary ubiquinone (QB) site albeit to slightly different places.

Structure and function of natural sulphide-oxidizing microbial mats under dynamic input of light and chemical energy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We studied the interaction between phototrophic and chemolithoautotrophic sulphide-oxidizing microorganisms in natural microbial mats forming in sulphidic streams.

Seagrass can mitigate negative ocean acidification effects on calcifying algae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The ultimate effect that ocean acidification (OA) and warming will have on the physiology of calcifying algae is still largely uncertain. Responses depend on the complex interactions between seawater chemistry, global/local stressors and species-specific

Exploring plant tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Plants are exposed to many stress factors, such as drought, high salinity or pathogens, which reduce the yield of the cultivated plants or affect the quality of the harvested products. Arabidopsis thaliana was used as a model plant to study the responses

Overexpression of RpKTI2 from Robinia pseudoacacia Affects the Photosynthetic Physiology and Endogenous Hormones of Tobacco

open access: yesPlants
Kunitz trypsin inhibitor genes play important roles in stress resistance. In this study, we investigated RpKTI2 cloned from Robinia pseudoacacia and its effect on tobacco.

Fertilizer type influences tomato yield and soil N2O emissions

open access: yesPlant, Soil and Environment, 2017
Improvements in crop management for a more sustainable agriculture are fundamental to reduce environmental impacts of cropland and to mitigate effects on global climate change. In this study three fertilization types - ammonium nitrate (control); mineral

Physiological and transcriptomic evidence for a close coupling between chloroplast ontogeny and cell cycle progression in the pennate diatom Seminavis robusta [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Despite the growing interest in diatom genomics, detailed time series of gene expression in relation to key cellular processes are still lacking. Here, we investigated the relationships between the cell cycle and chloroplast development in the pennate ...

NCP activates chloroplast transcription by controlling phytochrome-dependent dual nuclear and plastidial switches. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Phytochromes initiate chloroplast biogenesis by activating genes encoding the photosynthetic apparatus, including photosynthesis-associated plastid-encoded genes (PhAPGs).

Auxin response factor 6A regulates photosynthesis, sugar accumulation, and fruit development in tomato. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Auxin response factors (ARFs) are involved in auxin-mediated transcriptional regulation in plants. In this study, we performed functional characterization of SlARF6A in tomato.
