Proteomic analysis of the mucus of the photosynthetic sea slug Elysia crispata

open access: yesJournal of Proteomics
Elysia crispata is a tropical sea slug that can retain intracellular functional chloroplasts from its algae prey, a mechanism termed kleptoplasty. This sea slug, like other gastropods, secretes mucus, a viscous secretion with multiple functions, including lubrication, protection, and locomotion.

Overlooked components of lipid metabolism: Odd‐chain polyunsaturated fatty acids in photosynthetic microorganisms

open access: yesJournal of Phycology, EarlyView.
Abstract This mini‐review examines odd‐carbon polyunsaturated fatty acids (odd‐PUFAs), a rare but biologically significant group of fatty acids in photosynthetic microorganisms. Odd‐PUFAs are straight‐chain fatty acids containing an odd number of carbon atoms and two or more methylene‐interrupted double bonds. They typically account for less than 1% of

Experience and Time: A Metaphysical Approach

open access: yesAnalytic Philosophy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT What is the temporal structure of conscious experience? While it is popular to think that our most basic conscious experiences are temporally extended, we will be arguing against this view, on the grounds that it makes our conscious experiences depend on the future in an implausible way.

Consistent root microbiomes across contrasting habitats in a wild perennial vine

open access: yesPlant Biology, EarlyView.
Communities of bacteria and fungi associated with the roots are similar across diverse habitats in a wild plant. Abstract While we are beginning to understand that the plant microbiome is important for plant health, we still lack information about how plant microbiomes are shaped across environments and how they influence plant performance, in ...

Biocrust restoration in novel climates: assisted migration, habitat amelioration, and varied community composition as climate‐smart techniques

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction Successful restoration of terrestrial drylands depends on stable, fertile soils that retain water. These functions are provided by biological soil crusts (biocrust), suggesting their reestablishment is a critical step in dryland restoration.

Automated Lawn Maintenance: An Agronomic and Operational Review of Turf Health, Biodiversity, and Field Performance

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, Volume 43, Issue 7, Page 4603-4623, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Grass mowing is one of the most resource‐consuming activities in green maintenance, whether in private areas such as home gardens or in public spaces like urban parks. In recent years, concerns related to climate change, human health, and sustainability have become increasingly prominent in green maintenance, leading manufacturers and industry

Interactions between heavy metals and photosynthetic materials studied by optical techniques [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In this work studies on rapid inhibitory interactions between heavy metals and photosynthetic materials at different organization levels were carried out by optical assay techniques, investigating the possibility of applications in the heavy metal ...

A Fixed‐Charge Interphase Synchronizes Ion Transport to Suppress Space‐Charge‐Driven Inefficiency Under Nanoliter Confinement

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Volume 65, Issue 36, 1 September 2026.
Electrochemical energy storage breaks down under extreme miniaturization, where interfaces and space‐charge dominate device behavior. This work introduces a fixed‐charge selective interphase (FCSI) integrated into a twin‐tube micro‐Swiss‐roll architecture.

Hydrophilic Thiol‐Functionalized Silver Nanoparticles as Bio‐Stimulants in Quercus Pubescens Seedling Development

open access: yesChemistrySelect, Volume 11, Issue 33, 1 September 2026.
Surface‐functionalized hydrophilic silver nanoparticles (AgNPs‐3MPS, where 3MPS = sodium 3‐mercapto‐1‐propanesulfonate) were synthesized and characterized. Colloidal AgNPs‐3MPS were tested on Quercus pubescens seedlings to link nanomaterial hydrophilicity and loading with plant responses. Results showed a dose‐dependent effects relevant for sustainable

Coal Mine Wastewater as a Secondary Resource: Advances in Treatment and Value Recovery Technologies

open access: yesEnvironmental Quality Management, Volume 36, Issue 3, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Coal mine wastewater, which has historically been considered an environmental problem, is becoming more widely recognized as a secondary resource with substantial value recovery potential. Nevertheless, recent progress demonstrates that this wastewater could be converted into highly useful, industrially available pigments (like iron oxides) by
