Cytochrome (Cyt) b559, an important and essential core component of photosystem II in the photosynthetic electron transport system, is a heme-bridged heterodimer protein composed of an alpha subunit (PsbE) and a beta subunit (PsbE), and its reduced form ...

The Vesicle-inducing Protein 1 from Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 Organizes into Diverse Higher-Ordered Ring Structures [PDF]
The vesicle-inducing protein in plastids 1 (Vipp1) was found to be involved in thylakoid membrane formation in chloroplasts and cyanobacteria. In contrast to chloroplasts, it has been suggested that in cyanobacteria the protein is only tightly associated

Assessing plant water status: Part 1 – Classical methods
Abstract As a result of the changing climate, water scarcity poses a significant threat to crop and pasture production. Although soil water content can indicate drought, its measurements often provide limited spatial resolution and are weakly correlated with plant water status, producing misleading drought assessments.

Dynamic reorganization of photosynthetic supercomplexes during environmental acclimation
Plants and algae have acquired the ability to acclimate to ever-changing environments in order to survive. During photosynthesis, light energy is converted by several membrane protein supercomplexes into electrochemical energy, which is eventually used ...

Dapple apple and scar skin apple diseases are closely associated with suppression of anthocyanin biosynthesis and enhancement of suberin biosynthesis. Apple scar skin viroid (ASSVd) infection represses anthocyanin biosynthesis in apple callus. Abstract Apple scar skin viroid (ASSVd) causes dapple and scar skin apple diseases, posing serious threats to ...

One-step isolation and biochemical characterization of a highlyactive plant PSII monomeric core
We describe a one-step detergent solubilization protocol for isolating a highly active form of Photosystem II (PSII) from Pisum sativum L. Detailed characterization of the preparation showed that the complex was a monomer having no light harvesting ...

The thylakoid membranes of vascular plants are differentiated into stacked granum and unstacked stroma regions. The formation of grana is triggered by the macrodomain formation of photosystem II and light-harvesting complex II (PSII-LHCII) and thus their

This review focuses on phylloquinone as an indispensable link between light-induced charge separation and subsequent charge stabilization in Photosystem I (PS I). Here, the role of the polypeptide in conferring the necessary kinetic and thermodynamic properties to phylloquinone so as to specify its functional role in PS I electron transfer is discussed.
