Photothermal microscope

International Laser Science Conference, 1986
The crossed-beam thermal lens technique is used to probe weak optical absorbance and small variations in thermal diffusivity within a probe volume of a few cubic micrometers. By recording the signal as the sample is translated through the probe volume, a high spatial resolution image may be generated based on either the absorbance or thermal diffusion ...

Photothermal Absorption Correlation Spectroscopy

ACS Nano, 2009
Fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) is a popular technique, complementary to cell imaging for the investigation of dynamic processes in living cells. Based on fluorescence, this single molecule method suffers from artifacts originating from the poor fluorophore photophysics: photobleaching, blinking, and saturation.

Combined Photothermal Lens and Photothermal Mirror Characterization of Polymers

Applied Spectroscopy, 2014
We propose a combined thermal lens and thermal mirror method as concurrent photothermal techniques for the physical characterization of polymers. This combined method is used to investigate polymers as a function of temperature from room temperature up to 170 °C. The method permits a direct determination of thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity.

Photothermal Nanomaterials

2022
The exploration of photothermal nanomaterials with high light-to-heat conversion efficiency has paved the way for practical applications, including in cancer therapy, environmental remediation, catalysis, imaging and biomedicine. Covering the photothermal effect of different categories of light-absorbing nanomaterials, and focusing on metallic ...

Atomically precise photothermal nanomachines

Nature Materials, 2023
Interfacing molecular machines to inorganic nanoparticles can, in principle, lead to hybrid nanomachines with extended functions. Here we demonstrate a ligand engineering approach to develop atomically precise hybrid nanomachines by interfacing gold nanoclusters with tetraphenylethylene molecular rotors.

PYROMETRY USING PHOTOTHERMAL EFFECT

Proceeding of International Heat Transfer Conference 8, 1986
The radiation leaving a solid surface results from both emission and reflection. Only the first contribution depends on the temperature. An important and still unsolved problem in pyrometry is to measure the emission separately and quantitatively. We propose a new temperature measurement technique based on the photothermal effect for which the emission

Floating Photothermal Hydrogen Production

ChemSusChem
AbstractSolar‐to‐hydrogen (STH) is emerging as a promising approach for energy storage and conversion to contribute to carbon neutrality. The lack of efficient catalysts and sustainable reaction systems is stimulating the fast development of photothermal hydrogen production based on floating carriers to achieve unprecedented STH efficiency.

Overview Of Photothermal Spectroscopy

LEOS '90. Conference Proceedings IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society 1990 Annual Meeting, 1989
Abstract : This article provides an overview of photothermal techniques to probe materials with the emphasis on the use of probe beam refraction techniques to detect photothermal refractive index gradients. Physical insights into the quantification of the photothermal signal for important cases are provided, significant application areas are reviewed ...
