Electron and Phonon Thermal Waves in Semiconductors: an Application to Photothermal Effects

open access: yes, 1996
The electron and phonon temperature distribution function are calculated in semiconductors. We solved the coupled one-dimensional heat-diffussion equations in the linear approximation in which the physical parameters on the sample are independent of the ...

Two‐Dimensional Materials as a Multiproperty Sensing Platform

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Various sensing modalities enabled and/or enhanced by two‐dimensional (2D) materials are reviewed. The domains considered for sensing include: 1) optoelectronics, 2) quantum defects, 3) scanning probe microscopy, 4) nanomechanics, and 5) bio‐ and chemosensing.

Moore–Gibson–Thompson Stability Model in a Two-Temperature Photonic Semiconductor Excited Medium Affected by Rotation and Initial Stress

open access: yesCrystals, 2022
In this paper, the two-temperature theory is used to examine a novel model that generalizes the Moore–Gibson–Thompson (MGT) effect according to two-dimensional electronic/thermoelastic deformation.

Frequency-dependent photothermal measurement of thermal diffusivity for opaque and non-opaque materials; Application to crystals of TIPS-pentacene [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We propose the use of a frequency-dependent photothermal measurement as a complement to light-flash, i.e. time-dependent, measurements to determine the through-plane thermal diffusivity of small, thin samples, e.g.

Charge‐Induced Morphing Gels for Bioinspired Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a novel electroactive actuation mechanism that enables the gel material to generate substantial and reversible shape‐changing while preserving topological and isochoric (volumetric) equivalence. The resultant morphing behaviors can mimic the movements of muscle‐driven organelles in nature, including cilia‐like beating and ...

Design, Synthesis, and Application of Carbon Dots With Synergistic Antibacterial Activity

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2022
The diversity of bacteria and their ability to acquire drug resistance lead to many challenges in traditional antibacterial methods. Photothermal therapies that convert light energy into localized physical heat to kill target microorganisms do not induce

The 'nanobig rods' class of gold nanorods: optimized dimensions for improved in vivo therapeutic and imaging efficacy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Currently, gold nanorods can be synthesized in a wide range of sizes. However, for intended biological applications gold nanorods with approximate dimensions 50 nm x 15 nm are used.

Flow-Enhanced Photothermal Spectroscopy

open access: yesSensors, 2022
Photothermal spectroscopy (PTS) is a promising sensing technique for the measurement of gases and aerosols. PTS systems using a Fabry–Pérot interferometer (FPI) are considered particularly promising owing to their robustness and potential for miniaturization.
