Monte Carlo Calculation of Energy Strain on a Muscle Fiber Due to Light Absorption [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Monte Carlo models of light propagation in different materials are widely used in today’s science. In this paper the model is applied to a optically non-linear theoretical sample of a muscle fiber to determine the behavior of a photon inside the tissue ...

3D Anodic Alumina Nanoarchitectures: A Decade of Progress from Foundational Science to Functional Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ordered three‐dimensional anodic aluminum oxide (3D‐AAO) nanoarchitectures with longitudinal and transverse pores enable architecture‐driven metamaterials. The review maps fabrication advances, including hybrid pulse anodization, and shows how 3D‐AAO templates tailor properties across magnetism, energy, catalysis, and sensing.

Localized Temperature Monitoring in Mouse Brain during Light Delivery via a Non‐Planar Tapered Fiber‐Integrated µRTD Sensor

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We report a multifunctional tapered optical fiber integrating a conformal micro‐resistance temperature detector (µRTD) for local, real‐time thermometry during optical stimulation. The platform combines light‐delivery and temperature sensing within a minimally invasive footprint, enabling detection of sub‐degree cortical heating under representative ...

All‐Optical Reconfigurable Physical Unclonable Function for Sustainable Security

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An all‐optical reconfigurable physical unclonable function (PUF) is demonstrated using plasmonic coupling–induced sintering of optically trapped gold nanoparticles, where Brownian motion serves as a robust entropy source. The resulting optical PUF exhibits high encoding density, strong resistance to modeling attacks, and practical authentication ...

Classical and fluctuation-induced electromagnetic interactions in micronscale systems: designer bonding, antibonding, and Casimir forces

open access: yes, 2014
Whether intentionally introduced to exert control over particles and macroscopic objects, such as for trapping or cooling, or whether arising from the quantum and thermal fluctuations of charges in otherwise neutral bodies, leading to unwanted stiction ...
