Design optimization of photovoltaic arrays on curved surfaces
2018 Design, Automation & Test in Europe Conference & Exhibition (DATE), 2018Flexible photovoltaic (PV) arrays often have to be mounted on surfaces that have a significant amount of curvature. These include solar-powered vehicles, planes, and also some wearable devices. However, this inevitably leads to non-uniform solar irradiance among connected PV cells.

A review of solar photovoltaic array reconfiguration methods
2015 IEEE 24th International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE), 2015Shading causes significant reduction in energy production in photovoltaic (PV) systems. The negative effects caused by shadowing can be reduced through different techniques, among them, the reconfiguration of PV array electrical connections, stands out.

Photovoltaic Array Reliability Optimization
IEEE Transactions on Reliability, 1982Several statistical reliability studies have been conducted in areas of photovoltaic component design covering cell failure, interconnect fatigue, glass breakage and electrical insulation breakdown. This paper integrates the results from these studies and draws general conclusions relative to optimal reliability features for modules.

Self-Cleaning Microcavity Array for Photovoltaic Modules
ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2018Development of self-cleaning coatings is of great interest for the photovoltaic (PV) industry, as soiling of the modules can significantly reduce their electrical output and increase operational costs. We fabricated flexible polymeric films with novel disordered microcavity array (MCA) topography from fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP) by hot ...

Photovoltaic array loss mechanisms
Solar Cells, 1986Loss mechanisms which come into play when solar cell modules are mounted in arrays are identified. Losses can occur either from a reduction in the array electrical performance or with nonoptimal extraction of power from the array. Electrical performance degradation is caused by electrical mismatch, transmission losses from cell surface soiling and ...

Simulation of Photovoltaic Array Output
1992The purpose of this paper was to show a sufficiently good fit for the measured output U-I characteristics of a PV array. The fitting method has been tested on several solar panel characteristics provided by the manufacturer for different radiation levels at standard temperature and different cell templeratures at standard radiation.
