Multiple Genes and the Monophyly of Ischnocera (Insecta: Phthiraptera)
Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 2002Whereas most traditional classifications identify Ischnocera as a major suborder of lice in the order Phthiraptera, a recent molecular study based on one gene did not recover monophyly of Ischnocera. In this study we test the monophyly of Ischnocera using sequences of portions of three different genes: two nuclear (EF1 alpha and 18S) and one ...

The distribution of lice (Phthiraptera) on poultry (Gallus domesticus)
International Journal for Parasitology, 1991The distribution of three amblyceran (Menacanthus stramineus, Menacanthus cornutus, Menopon gallinae) and five ischnoceran species (Lipeurus lawrensis tropicalis, Lipeurus caponis. Goniocotes gallinae, Goniodes gigas, Goniodes dissimilis) on poultry was determined. The preferred sites of these species on the host body were recorded.

Fossil lice (Insecta: Phthiraptera) reconsidered
Systematic Entomology, 2006AbstractFive papers describing fossils considered to be Phthiraptera (lice) by their authors are reviewed. We place the specimens described in three papers in the Acari (mites) and regard them as probably not fossils. A fourth paper describes what appears to be a fossil insect. However, we do not consider it to be a louse.

Degeerielline Ischnocera (Insecta : Phthiraptera) of the Pittidae (Aves)
Oriental Insects, 1977Abstract This paper deals with the species of Picicola, a member of the Degeeriella-complex. parasitic on birds (pittas) of the family Pittidae (order Passeriformes). It contains a redescription of one known species, descriptions of 8 new species and a key to the described species.

The water-vapour uptake system of the phthiraptera
Journal of Insect Physiology, 1983Abstract The occurrence of active water-vapour uptake was examined in 16 Phthirapteran species representing the two groups of biting lice or Mallophaga (Amblycera and Ischnocera) and the sucking lice or Anoplura. Water-vapour uptake could not be demonstrated in the Anoplura and although it is frequently encountered in the biting lice, some members of

Hematophages (Diptera, Siphonaptera, Hemiptera, Phthiraptera)
2012Insects of public health importance use different feeding strategies in the course of their life cycles. Strategies that allowed them to access new food sources made it possible for some insect species to become involved in the transmission of pathogenic agents, in different ways and with different degrees of efficiency.

The genus Esthiopterum (Phthiraptera: Ischnocera)
Journal of Entomology Series B, Taxonomy, 1973SYNOPSISAn account is given of eight species of Esthiopterum parasitic on cranes, and the three species‐groups into which they are divided are characterised. Four of the species are described as new, redescriptions are given of the remainder, and a key for their separation is included.
