“Sweeter than a rose”, at least to Triatoma phyllosoma complex males (Triatominae: Reduviidae) [PDF]

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2018
Background The Triatoma phyllosoma complex of Trypanosoma cruzi vectors (Triatominae: Reduviidae) is distributed in both Neotropical and Nearctic bioregions of Mexico. Methods Volatile organic compounds emitted by disturbed Triatoma longipennis, Triatoma

Domestic Triatoma spp. Infections with Trypanosoma cruzi, Household Infestations, and Molecular Identification in Oaxaca, México [PDF]

open access: yesInsects, 2022
In Latin America, Mexico is the country with the second highest annual estimated number of Chagas disease cases, caused by Trypanosoma cruzi, due to vector-borne transmission.

Spatial-Temporal Distribution of the Palinurid and Scyllarid Phyllosoma Larvae in Oman Coastal Waters [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural and Marine Sciences, 2012
The Bongo Net samples collected between 2005 and 2008 in the Sea of Oman and in the north-western part of the Arabian Sea (near Massirah Island) were analyzed, for a pilot assessment of seasonal and spatial distribution of the phyllosoma larvae.

Parasitemia and Differential Tissue Tropism in Mice Infected with Trypanosoma cruzi Isolates Obtained from Meccus phyllosoma in the State of Oaxaca, Mexico [PDF]

open access: yesPathogens, 2022
Trypanosoma cruzi is a parasite transmitted by the feces of triatomines. Many triatomine species are found in Mexico, and various T. cruzi variants have been isolated from these species, each showing very different virulence and cell tropism.

First report of mixed Trypanosoma cruzi discrete typing units infection in Triatoma phyllosoma in the peri-urban environment of Oaxaca, Mexico [PDF]

open access: yesRevista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical
Background: Chagas disease, a zoonosis transmitted mainly by hematophagous insects of the subfamily Triatominae, is caused by Trypanosoma cruzi, classified into six discrete typing units (DTUs: TcI-TcVI and Tcbat).

Disentangling genetic from environmental effects on phenotypic variability of southern rock lobster (Jasus edwardsii) postlarvae [PDF]

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 12, Issue 11, November 2022., 2022
We found that Jasus edwardsii settlers exhibit phenotypic variability across a geographical and temporal gradient; however, this is not correlated with genetic divergence. Given the protracted pelagic larval duration of the species, we hypothesize that dispersal history drives phenotypic variability in this species.

High Gene Flow With Patterns of Asymmetric Connectivity and Adaptive Divergence in the New Zealand Southern Rock Lobster, Jasus edwardsii (Hutton, 1875) [PDF]

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, Volume 19, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Understanding patterns of connectivity and adaptive divergence is crucial for supporting conservation and sustainable management of harvested species. This study utilised single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) to investigate spatially explicit patterns of genetic structure, gene flow and adaptive divergence in the commercially important ...

Morphogenesis of the carapace from phyllosoma to puerulus in the Japanese spiny lobster [PDF]

open access: yesZoological Letters
Molting in exoskeleton-bearing organisms can result in dramatic body shape transformations. While this phenomenon has been well-studied in insects, limited knowledge exists for other animals, including crustaceans.

The design and testing of mini-barcode markers in marine lobsters. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Full-length mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I (COI) sequence information from lobster phyllosoma larvae can be difficult to obtain when DNA is degraded or fragmented. Primers that amplify smaller fragments are also more useful in metabarcoding studies.

Phylogeography and cohesion species delimitation of California endemic trapdoor spiders within the Aptostichus icenoglei sibling species complex (Araneae: Mygalomorphae: Euctenizidae) [PDF]

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 13, Issue 4, April 2023., 2023
Species delimitation in spiders has traditionally used morphological characters; however, certain mygalomorph spiders are heavily inclined toward morphological homogeneity despite long periods of population‐level isolation and consequent high degrees of molecular divergence.
