Engineering of an Ancestral McbA with Enhanced Domain Mobility Extends Biocatalytic Amide Synthesis Scope

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, EarlyView.
We show how engineered ancestral amide bond synthetases (ABSs) together with cofactor recycling using a single polyphosphate kinase paves the way for chemoenzymatic synthesis of pharmacophores. The figure illustrates how ancestral ABS has a more flexible C‐terminal domain, which is associated with enhanced catalytic performance and expanded amine scope.

Chromosomal Evolution in the Phylogenetic Context: A Remarkable Karyotype Reorganization in Neotropical Parrot Myiopsitta monachus (Psittacidae)

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2020
Myiopsitta monachus is a small Neotropical parrot (Psittaciformes: Arini Tribe) from subtropical and temperate regions of South America. It has a diploid chromosome number 2n = 48, different from other members of the Arini Tribe that have usually 70 ...

Distinguishing Phylogenetic Networks [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Applied Algebra and Geometry, 2018
Phylogenetic networks are becoming increasingly popular in phylogenetics since they have the ability to describe a wider range of evolutionary events than their tree counterparts. In this paper, we study Markov models on phylogenetic networks and their associated geometry.

Microbial Contribution to Soiling and Its Impact on Photovoltaic Module Soiling in Arid Zones of the Atacama Desert

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, EarlyView.
Microorganisms colonizing photovoltaic surfaces in the Atacama desert form biofilms that enhance particle adhesion and reduce energy yield. This study identifies UV‐resistant bacteria and carotenoid‐producing strains that interfere with PV performance.

Algorithms for Visualizing Phylogenetic Networks

open access: yes, 2016
We study the problem of visualizing phylogenetic networks, which are extensions of the Tree of Life in biology. We use a space filling visualization method, called DAGmaps, in order to obtain clear visualizations using limited space.

Pre‐Administration of Akkermansia Muciniphila Prevents the Development of Severe Acute Graft‐Versus‐Host Disease in Systemic Organs

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Akkermansia muciniphila, a next‐generation probiotic, alleviates acute graft‐versus‐host disease (aGvHD) following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) by providing protective effects across multiple organs. Pre‐colonization with A.

Amphibians and Reptiles Exhibit Different Ecological and Evolutionary Spatial Patterns in the Amazon Basin

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Understanding spatial variability in ecological and evolutionary patterns is key to Amazonian biodiversity conservation. This study examined taxonomic, phylogenetic, and functional diversity across amphibians and reptiles, assessing the influence of ...
