THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EVOLUTIONARY THEORY AND PHYLOGENETIC ANALYSIS
Biological Reviews of the Cambridge Philosophical Society, 1997ABSTRACTThe relationship between phylogenetic reconstruction and evolutionary theory is reassessed. It is argued here that phylogenies, and evolutionary principles, should be analysed initially as independently from each other as possible. Only then can they be used to test one another.

Multigene analysis of lophophorate and chaetognath phylogenetic relationships
Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 2008Maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference analyses of seven concatenated fragments of nuclear-encoded housekeeping genes indicate that Lophotrochozoa is monophyletic, i.e., the lophophorate groups Bryozoa, Brachiopoda and Phoronida are more closely related to molluscs and annelids than to Deuterostomia or Ecdysozoa.

The SecY Protein Family: Comparative Analysis and Phylogenetic Relationships
Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 1994We have cloned and sequenced the plastome encoded secY homologue of the cryptomonad alga Pyrenomonas salina. In this study we have carried out a comparative analysis of all but one fully sequenced proteins of the SecY family. We present an alignment of 16 SecY family proteins, containing family signatures, putative transmembrane domains, consensus ...

Analysis of phylogenetic relationships in the Triticeae tribe using RFLPs
Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1993The use of restriction fragment length polymorphisms in combination with other approaches is very useful for the reconstruction of evolutionary events revealing phylogenetic relationships. A set of 21 cDNA probes hybridizing to different chromosome arms in hexaploid wheat was used in a series of experiments designed to estimate the phylogenetic ...

Amphibian Relationships: Phylogenetic Analysis of Morphology and Molecules
Herpetological Monographs, 1993Amphibia and its major groups are defined according to principles of phylogenetic taxonomy, and the implications of the definitions for amphibian systematics are discussed. The results of phylogenetic analyses of Amphibia, Anura, Caudata, and Gymnophiona from morpho- logical and molecular studies are compared, based on papers published in the symposium

RFLP analysis of phylogenetic relationships and genetic variation in the genus Lycopersicon
Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1990Forty single-copy, nuclear probes of known chromosomal position were used to examine restriction fragment length polymorphism in the tomato genus Lycopersion. The probes were from three libraries: one cDNA, and two genomic libraries [Symbol: see text]ne genomic made with EcoRI and the other with PstI.

PHYLOGENETIC RELATIONSHIPS AMONG THE CHROMISTA: A REVIEW AND PRELIMINARY ANALYSIS
Cladistics, 1991Abstract— It is now well established that the algae do not constitute a monophyletic group. A number of brown and golden algae are related to various heterotrophic protists, which have recently been characterized and described as a kingdom, the Chromista.

A comprehensive morphological analysis of talpid moles (Mammalia) phylogenetic relationships
Cladistics, 2006AbstractSome talpid moles show one of the most specialized suites of morphological characters seen among small mammals. Fossorial and more generalized shrew‐looking moles inhabit both North America and Eurasia but these land masses share none of the same genera.

Preliminary Phylogenetic Analysis of Briese Family Relationships
Surname DNA Journal, 2014A comparison was made of 37 STR markers on the Y-chromosome of eight individuals bearing the surname Briese. Based on paper records, two of these individuals were known to be related, but relationships could not be determined for others. The genetic study showed three distinct genetic lineages bearing the Briese surname. Five of the eight were shown to

Phylogenetic relationships among pufferfish of genusTakifugu by RAPD analysis
Chinese Journal of Oceanology and Limnology, 2001Amplifications with 300 10-base primers under predetermined optimal reaction yielded 2762 reproducible amplified fragments ranging from 200 to 3000 bp. Genetic distances among five species ofTakifugu andLagocephalus spadiceus as outgroup were calculated based on the presence/absence of the amplified fragments.
