The complete mitochondrial genome of a mangrove plant: Aegiceras corniculatum and its phylogenetic implications

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2020
The complete mitochondrial genome of mangrove plant: Aegiceras corniculatum was analyzed in this paper, which is the first for the genus within the family Myrsinaceae. The mitogenome sequence is 425,282 bp in length containing six ribosomal RNA genes, 25

The Embryonic Development of the Cotylean Polyclad Phrikoceros jannetae

open access: yesActa Zoologica, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Polyclads exhibit distinct developmental modes ranging from direct to indirect development, with several transitional stages also recognised. The existence of an indirect developmental mode in polyclads with a planktonic life history stage in the form of a free‐swimming larva is unique among all free‐living flatworms and makes polyclads a ...

The complete chloroplast genome of Ranunculus Cantoniensis

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2019
The complete chloroplast genome of Ranunculus cantoniensis was determined. Total chloroplast genome was 155,119 bp in lenth, displayed a typical quadripartite structure, including a large single copy (LSC) region of 84,634 bp and a small single copy ...

Morphology‐based phylogeny of longhorn beetles (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae) aligns with phylogenomics and informs higher‐level systematics

open access: yesCladistics, EarlyView.
Abstract We present a morphology‐based backbone phylogeny of Cerambycidae beetles inferred by parsimony analyses using 77 adult characters scored for 101 species. This phylogeny is largely consistent with recent phylogenomic studies regarding key placements (e.g., Parandrini stat. rev. within Prioninae, Necydalini stat. rev.

A Phylogenomic Supertree of Birds

open access: yesDiversity, 2019
It has long been appreciated that analyses of genomic data (e.g., whole genome sequencing or sequence capture) have the potential to reveal the tree of life, but it remains challenging to move from sequence data to a clear understanding of evolutionary ...

The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Artocarpus hypargyreus

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2020
The complete chloroplast genome sequences of Artocarpus hypargyreus was reported in this study. The length of the sequence was 160,952 bp in length with a large single copy (LSC) region of 89,476 bp, the small single copy (SSC) region of 20,070 bp and ...

Budding speciation, mitochondrial capture and introgression between surface and cave lineages in the Asellus aquaticus species complex

open access: yesCladistics, EarlyView.
Abstract Replicated pairs of ancestral and evolutionarily derived populations provide opportunities to test hypotheses about the deterministic laws of evolution. The Asellus aquaticus species complex is an invertebrate model system with several independent surface‐to‐cave transitions and a complicated and unresolved evolutionary history.

A new Hyphessobrycon (Characiformes: Acestrorhamphidae) of the Hyphessobrycon agulha lineage of Hyphessobryconinae from the lower Aripuanã basin, Brazil, with comments about the lineage

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract A new species of Hyphessobrycon is described from a tributary of Rio Jatuarana, lower Rio Aripuanã basin, Rio Madeira basin, Apuí, Amazonas. The new species is part of the Hyphessobrycon agulha lineage, with the typical midlateral narrow black stripe immediately followed dorsally by an iridescent stripe.

Speciation of European bullheads (Cottus spp.): The next problem for taxonomy of northern freshwater fishes

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract High morphological and ecological diversity displayed by European bullheads led Freyhof et al. (2005) to describe 15 nominal species. However, the basis for declaring these nominal species is contentious due to a lack of rigorous statistical analysis of morphological variations among populations, limitations in the inferences made from ...
