A general model for analysis of linear and hyperbolic enzyme inhibition mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We developed a general enzyme kinetic model that integrates these six basic inhibition mechanism onto a single one. From this model, we deduced a general enzyme kinetic equation that through modulation of simple parameters, γ (the relative inhibitor affinity for two binding sites) and β (the reactivity of the enzyme–substrate–inhibitor complex), is ...

Molecular determinants of signal transduction in tropomyosin receptor kinases

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Tropomyosin receptor kinases control critical neuronal functions, but how do the same receptors produce diverse cellular responses? This review explores the structural mechanisms behind Trk signaling diversity, focusing on allosteric modulation and ligand bias.

Card games are effective tools to enhance foundation year health and safety inductions

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A series of three card games was developed to actively deliver health and safety education to foundation year students. Most students reported positive responses regarding their enjoyment (89.9 %) and learning (74.7 %) from all games evaluated. Data revealed significant improvements in health and safety knowledge (P < 0.0001).

Using Theory to Develop Healthy Choices in Motion, a Comprehensive, Experiential Physical Activity Curriculum. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background: Research has shown that engaging in regular physical activity supports physiologic, metabolic, and immunologic processes, as well as quality of life. However, few youth in the United States meet the U.S.

The Associations Between Chronic Active Lesions and White Matter Disease: A 7 Tesla Imaging Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The relationship between paramagnetic rim lesions (PRLs) and surrounding normally appearing white matter (NAWM) disease, potentially contributory to the associations seen between PRLs and clinical impairment, is underexplored. Objectives To assess whether PRLs correlate with a greater degree of NAWM injury in early MS.

Physical activity and obesity

open access: yesBiomedicine & Pharmacotherapy, 1994
Obesity is a major public health problem. Secular increases in the prevalence of obesity appear to be paralleled by decreases in physical activity. Although physical activity and weight are associated, the exact nature of the relationship remains uncertain.

Multimodal Autonomic Biomarkers Predict Phenoconversion in Pure Autonomic Failure

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Pure autonomic failure (PAF) presents with autonomic failure without other neurological features. A third develop central neurological features, fulfilling criteria for multiple system atrophy (MSA) and Lewy body diseases (LBD), including Parkinson's disease and Dementia with Lewy bodies.

Sport as a privilege in Spain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The reduction of Physical Education hours in the Spanish curriculum originates from a false premise: families are already aware of the importance of physical activity, and attempt to compensate for the lack of it at school with an extra schedule.
