Mutant p53R273H disrupts PDPK1 homodimerization and contributes to PDPK1 activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
How mutant p53R273H drives AKT signaling is unclear. We show that p53R273H, but not wild‐type, directly binds PDPK1 via a mutation‐dependent conformational change. This interaction disrupts inhibitory PDPK1 homodimerization and enhances AKT phosphorylation.

A randomised controlled trial and cost-effectiveness evaluation of 'booster' interventions to sustain increases in physical activity in middle-aged adults in deprived urban neighbourhoods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background: More evidence is needed on the potential role of 'booster' interventions in the maintenance of increases in physical activity levels after a brief intervention in relatively sedentary populations.

Interventions to Promote Physical Activity by Older Adults [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journals of Gerontology Series A: Biological Sciences and Medical Sciences, 2001
Physical inactivity has been established to be an independent risk factor for a range of chronic diseases and conditions that threaten the health of the nation. However, only a minority of the population is currently meeting the recommended levels of regular physical activity, which have been linked with important health and quality-of-life benefits ...

An intervention to promote Healthy Eating and Physical Activity in Lebanese School children: Health-E-PALS a pilot cluster randomised controlled trial [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Aim and objectives: The purpose of this study was to develop, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of a multicomponent school-based intervention that focused on promoting healthy eating and physical activity with school children (aged 9 to 11 years ...

Physical activity as an aid to smoking cessation during pregnancy: Two feasibility studies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Background: Pharmacotherapies for smoking cessation have not been adequately tested in pregnancy and women are reluctant to use them. Behavioural support alone has a modest effect on cessation rates; therefore, more effective interventions are needed ...

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

A web-based physical activity promotion intervention for inactive parent-child dyads: Protocol for a randomized controlled trial [PDF]

open access: yes
Background: Low levels of physical activity are associated with numerous adverse health outcomes, yet sedentary lifestyles are common among both children and adults.

Do walking strategies to increase physical activity reduce reported sitting in workplaces: A randomized control trial [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background Interventions designed to increase workplace physical activity may not automatically reduce high volumes of sitting, a behaviour independently linked to chronic diseases such as obesity and type II diabetes.
