Strength grading of Norway spruce structural timber: revisiting property relationships used in EN 338 classification system [PDF]
Solid timber for structural applications has to be strength graded prior to its use. In order to remain economic the grading process usually focuses on the most important physical and mechanical properties: density, modulus of elasticity (MOE) and ...

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Connecting Look and Feel: Associating the visual and tactile properties of physical materials
For machines to interact with the physical world, they must understand the physical properties of objects and materials they encounter. We use fabrics as an example of a deformable material with a rich set of mechanical properties. A thin flexible fabric,

Visual Recovery Reflects Cortical MeCP2 Sensitivity in Rett Syndrome
ABSTRACT Objective Rett syndrome (RTT) is a devastating neurodevelopmental disorder with developmental regression affecting motor, sensory, and cognitive functions. Sensory disruptions contribute to the complex behavioral and cognitive difficulties and represent an important target for therapeutic interventions.

"Preparation and performance of irradiated crosslinked medical polyisoprene rubber"
Trimethylolpropane triacrylate(TMPTA)/polyisoprene rubber (IR) and tetramethylolpropane tetraacrylate (PET 4 A)/IR composites were prepared by γ-ray irradiation with IR as matrix, TMPTA and PET 4 A as sensitizers, and the sensitization effect of ...

Hanbury Brown-Twiss interferometry and second-order correlations of inflaton quanta
The quantum theory of optical coherence is applied to the scrutiny of the statistical properties of the relic inflaton quanta. After adapting the description of the quantized scalar and tensor modes of the geometry to the analysis of intensity ...

ABSTRACT Background Poststroke fatigue (PSF) and frailty share substantial overlap in their manifestations, yet previous research has yielded conflicting results due to the use of heterogeneous frailty assessment tools. Objective To evaluate the independent impact of frailty on PSF using a unified measurement system (Tilburg Frailty Indicator, TFI ...

Higher Amyloid and Tau Burden Is Associated With Faster Decline on a Digital Cognitive Test
ABSTRACT Objective A 2‐min digital clock‐drawing test (DCTclock) captures more granular features of the clock‐drawing process than the pencil‐and‐paper clock‐drawing test, revealing more subtle deficits at the preclinical stage of Alzheimer's disease (AD). A previous cross‐sectional study demonstrated that worse DCTclock performance was associated with
