Some theoretical problems in chemistry and physics

International Journal of Quantum Chemistry, 2006
AbstractRecently the need for incorporating so‐called Jordan blocks in the theoretical formulation of dynamical processes in Nature has been confronted and challenged. In addition, quantum mechanics has evolved from the very theoretical to the highly technological prompting the establishment of the new field of quantum technology. Initial studies in an

Theoretical Chemistry and Physics of Heavy and Superheavy Elements — An Introduction

2003
In the Middle Ages, the Alchemists failed completely in their attempts to transmute lead or other base metals into gold1. Today, we can not only transmute one element to another but create new elements unknown to Nature. We can achieve this transmutation not only in our experiments but also in our theories. We have thus created New Alchemies!

A Theoretical Model for the Hydraulic Permeability of Clayey Sediments Considering the Impact of Pore Fluid Chemistry

Journal of Marine Science and Engineering
The chemistry of the pore fluid within clayey sediments frequently changes in various processes. However, the impacts of pore fluid chemistry have not been well included in the hydraulic permeability model, and the physical bases behind the salinity ...

A Theoretical View and Approach to the Physics and Chemistry of Zeolites and Molecular Sieves

1990
The understanding and modeling of catalysts and catalytic behavior at the molecular level can benefit from accurate and significant quantum chemical calculations or molecular statistics and dynamic simulations or all three procedures. Although theory has so far had a limited impact on the understanding and prediction of catalysis, the advent of more ...

Theoretical methods in pattern formation in Physics, Chemistry and Biology

2008
In these lectures some simple ideas common to theories of pattern formation in diverse areas of Physics, Chemistry and Biology are reviewed. The unifying theme of these theoretical models is the existence of an instability (bifurcation) in a system driven far from equilibrium to a state with spatial variation at a non-zero wave vector.

Analysis of Teaching and Learning Practices in Physics and Chemistry Education: Theoretical and Methodological Issues

2013
In this chapter, theoretical frameworks and methodological approaches for the study of physics and chemistry teaching and learning practices are illustrated through the use of three studies. These studies, based on the analysis of videotaped classroom discourse and actions, concern conceptual change, students’ meaning-making, and inquiry-based science ...
