Physical phenomena in containerless glass processing [PDF]
Flight experiments are planned on drops containing bubbles. The experiments involve stimulating the drop via non-uniform heating and rotation. The resulting trajectories of the bubbles as well as the shapes of the drops and bubble will be videotaped and ...

The temporal discretization scheme is one important ingredient of efficient simulator for two-phase flow in the fractured porous media. The application of single-scale temporal scheme is restricted by the rapid changes of the pressure and saturation in ...

Numerical modeling of two-phase flows in heterogeneous and fractured media is of great interest in petroleum reservoir engineering. The classical model for two-phase flows in porous media is not completely thermodynamically consistent since the energy ...

Entropic electrokinetics: recirculation, particle separation and negative mobility
We show that when particles are suspended in an electrolyte confined between corrugated charged surfaces, electrokinetic flows lead to a new set of phenomena such as particle separation, mixing for low-Reynolds micro- and nano-metric devices and negative

Maxwell's equations as a special case of deformation of a solid lattice in Euler's coordinates [PDF]
It is shown that the set of equations known as Maxwell's equations perfectly describe two very different systems: (1) the usual electromagnetic phenomena in vacuum or in the matter and (2) the deformation of isotropic solid lattices, containing ...

Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Solitary waves of the generalized Zakharov equations via integration algorithms
In many applications, the investigation of traveling wave solutions is essential in obtaining an accurate description of the dynamical behavior of most physical phenomena.

Universality in solar flare and earthquake occurrence
Earthquakes and solar flares are phenomena involving huge and rapid releases of energy characterized by complex temporal occurrence. By analysing available experimental catalogs, we show that the stochastic processes underlying these apparently different

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Stacking-symmetry governed second harmonic generation in graphene trilayers [PDF]
Crystal symmetry plays a central role in governing a wide range of fundamental physical phenomena. One example is the nonlinear optical second harmonic generation (SHG), which requires inversion symmetry breaking. Here we report a unique stacking-induced
