LGB-PHY: An Evaporation Duct Height Prediction Model Based on Physically Constrained LightGBM Algorithm

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
The evaporation duct is a special atmospheric stratification that significantly influences the propagation path of electromagnetic waves at sea, and hence, it is crucial for the stability of the radio communication systems.

Arginine methylation as a regulatory ratchet in cancer: From substrate selection to malignant‐state stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Arginine methylation can be viewed as a persistence‐prone post‐translational modification regulated by a network of PRMTs. Competitive and compensatory interactions among PRMTs can redistribute methylation across substrate pools shaped by sequence, structural, spatial, and environmental layers, reinforcing RNA‐processing, chromatin, and signaling ...

Physically based model for assessing rainfall-induced deep-seated landslides using a hydrological-geotechnical model

open access: yesAnnals of GIS
In mountainous areas, understanding the sizes and types of rainfall-induced landslides, and identifying areas at high risk, are critical challenges for disaster management. Shallow and deep-seated landslides are the two major types in mountainous regions,

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

A physically-based parsimonious hydrological model for flash floods in Mediterranean catchments [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2011
A spatially distributed hydrological model, dedicated to flood simulation, is developed on the basis of physical process representation (infiltration, overland flow, channel routing).

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

On the parsimony, interpretability and predictive capability of a physically−based model in the optical domain for estimating soil moisture content

open access: yesGeoderma
Soil moisture plays an important role in the transpiration, evaporation and plant growth processes at the land surface-atmosphere interface. Optical remote sensing has great potential for the retrieval of surface soil moisture content (SMC), with many ...

A physically-based damage model for soft elastomeric materials with anisotropic Mullins effect

open access: yesInternational Journal of Solids and Structures, 2019
In this paper, we develop a new physically-based damage model to describe the anisotropic Mullins effect of elastomeric materials. The damage model is based on our previous hyperelastic model (Xiang et al., 2018), which has a strain energy density ...

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Probabilistic landslide susceptibility analysis in tropical mountainous terrain using the physically based r.slope.stability model

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2019
. Landslides triggered by rainfall are very common phenomena in complex tropical environments such as the Colombian Andes, one of the regions of South America most affected by landslides every year.
