An Accelerator for Physics Simulations

Computing in Science & Engineering, 2007
An accelerator based on field-programmable gate array (FPGA) technology accelerates double-precision floating-point operations present in the energy calculation of Monte Carlo-Metropolis simulations. The accelerator uses COTS components and is scalable in terms of clock frequency, memory capability, and number of computing units.

Particle physics with cosmic accelerators

Physical Review D, 1986
We discuss the atmospheric showers initiated by 1--${10}^{4}$-TeV photons emitted by cosmic accelerators such as Cygnus X-3. The direction and characteristic time structure of the radiation from such sources can be used to tag a beam of known composition (\ensuremath{\gamma} rays) with well-understood interactions (QED) with the target atmosphere.

Physics for Radiosurgery with Linear Accelerators

Neurosurgery Clinics of North America, 1992
Radiosurgery had a long development period and, for more than three decades, was used only in a few specialized centers around the world. The development of LINAC-based radiosurgical techniques combined with the concurrent advances in imaging modalities during the 1980s, however, caused so much interest in this treatment modality that most major ...

Neutron physics with accelerators

Progress in Particle and Nuclear Physics, 2018
Abstract Neutron-induced nuclear reactions are of key importance for a variety of applications in basic and applied science. Apart from nuclear reactors, accelerator-based neutron sources play a major role in experimental studies, especially for the determination of reaction cross sections over a wide energy span from sub-thermal to GeV energies ...
