Drowning by Numbers: Topology and Physics in Fluid Dynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Since its very beginnings, topology has forged strong links with physics and the last Nobel prize in physics, awarded in 2016 to Thouless, Haldane and Kosterlitz " for theoretical discoveries of topological phase transitions and topological phases of matter", confirmed that these connections have been maintained up to contemporary physics. To give some

Exactly Integrable Dynamics of Interface between Ideal Fluid and Light Viscous Fluid

open access: yes, 2004
It is shown that dynamics of the interface between ideal fluid and light viscous fluid is exactly integrable in the approximation of small surface slopes for two-dimensional flow.

Bilinear form and Pfaffian solutions for a (2+1)-dimensional generalized Konopelchenko–Dubrovsky–Kaup–Kupershmidt system in fluid mechanics and plasma physics

open access: yesNonlinear dynamics, 2023
In this paper, a (2+1)-dimensional generalized Konopelchenko-Dubrovsky-Kaup-Kupershmidt system in fluid mechanics and plasma physics is investigated. Bilinear form under certain coefficient constraints is given via the Hirota method.

Network topology drives population temporal variability in experimental habitat networks

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
Habitat patches connected by dispersal pathways form habitat networks. We explored how network topology affects population outcomes in laboratory experiments using a model species (Daphnia carinata). Central habitat nodes in complex lattice networks exhibited lower temporal variability in population sizes, suggesting they support more stable ...

Pointwise decay and smoothness for semilinear elliptic equations and travelling waves

open access: yes, 2015
We derive sharp decay estimates and prove holomorphic extensions for the solutions of a class of semilinear nonlocal elliptic equations with linear part given by a sum of Fourier multipliers with finitely smooth symbols at the origin.

Interaction vesicles as emerging mediators of host‐pathogen molecular crosstalk and their implications for infection dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interaction extracellular vesicles (iEVs) are hybrid vesicles formed through host‐pathogen communication. They facilitate immune evasion, transfer pathogens' molecules, increase host cell uptake, and enhance virulence. This Perspective article illustrates the multifunctional roles of iEVs and highlights their emerging relevance in infection dynamics ...

B cell mechanobiology in health and disease: emerging techniques and insights into therapeutic responses

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
B cells sense external mechanical forces and convert them into biochemical signals through mechanotransduction. Understanding how malignant B cells respond to physical stimuli represents a groundbreaking area of research. This review examines the key mechano‐related molecules and pathways in B lymphocytes, highlights the most relevant techniques to ...

The epithelial barrier theory proposes a comprehensive explanation for the origins of allergic and other chronic noncommunicable diseases

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Exposure to common noxious agents (1), including allergens, pollutants, and micro‐nanoplastics, can cause epithelial barrier damage (2) in our body's protective linings. This may trigger an immune response to our microbiome (3). The epithelial barrier theory explains how this process can lead to chronic noncommunicable diseases (4) affecting organs ...

Goodbye flat lymphoma biology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Three‐dimensional (3D) biological systems have become key tools in lymphoma research, offering reliable in vitro and ex vivo platforms to explore pathogenesis and support precision medicine. This review highlights current 3D non‐Hodgkin lymphoma models, detailing their features, advantages, and limitations, and provides a broad perspective on future ...
