Time-lapse seismic attenuation as a tool for monitoring hydrocarbons and CO2 in geological materials [PDF]
Both laboratory experiments and theoretical models have shown seismic attenuation to be sensitive to various petrophysical properties of rock and pore fluids, making attenuation a potentially useful time-lapse attribute to measure and interpret through ...

A Physics-guided Generative AI Toolkit for Geophysical Monitoring
Full-waveform inversion (FWI) plays a vital role in geoscience to explore the subsurface. It utilizes the seismic wave to image the subsurface velocity map. As the machine learning (ML) technique evolves, the data-driven approaches using ML for FWI tasks have emerged, offering enhanced accuracy and reduced computational cost compared to traditional ...

Temperature‐dependent shear behavior and constitutive model of the rock–concrete interface
Shear tests were conducted to investigate the temperature‐dependent shear behavior of the rock–concrete interface, highlighting the interaction between the surrounding rock and the lining during tunnel fires. Under experimental conditions, concrete exhibited greater temperature sensitivity than rock, with the shear fracture surface transitioning from ...

Geophysics and cosmology — A historical review
Two types of connections exist between cosmology and geophysics: any fundamental law of physics is incomplete without reference to initial and boundary conditions. That is true both for laboratory physics and for any cosmological physics a fortiori.

The effects of grout strength and thickness on the shear behavior of bolt–grout interfaces (BGI) under constant normal stiffness conditions are investigated. Shear strength, failure modes, and acoustic emission characteristics are examined. The findings reveal that grout strength exerts a significantly greater influence on BGI shear strength and ...

A scientometric analysis of 2449 journal articles and a comprehensive review of 336 papers were conducted, discussing and identifying challenges and research gaps in rockburst prediction and prevention and proposing an ontology‐based framework for better decision‐making in underground excavations. Abstract With underground engineering projects becoming

This paper investigates the high‐pressure water jet‐pick combined rock‐breaking mode (HPC), which employs high‐pressure water jets to precut grooves on both sides of the picks. The rock‐breaking patterns and performance of the HPC method are obtained, and the auxiliary rock‐breaking mechanism of water jet grooving is revealed.

Three sets of strength data were selected, including hydrostatic pressure independent within the brittle region (HPI‐B), hydrostatic pressure dependent within the brittle region (HPD‐B), and hydrostatic pressure dependent within the brittle–ductile region (HPD‐BD). For HPI type, the failure envelope within the deviatoric plane remains constant.
