PHYSA MARMORATA (MOLLUSCA: PHYSIDAE) COMO HOSPEDEIRO INTERMEDIÁRIO DE ECHINOSTOMA EXILE (TREMATODA: ECHINOSTOMATIDAE) NO BRASIL [PDF]

open access: yesNeotropical Helminthology, 2021

Assessing multigenerational effects of prednisolone to the freshwater snail, Physa acuta (Gastropoda: Physidae).

Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2017
Prednisolone (PDS), a potent synthetic glucocorticoid is widely prescribed for its exceptional anti-inflammatory properties. Several studies have detected the environmental presence of PDS in water bodies which has led to an ecological concern for its toxicity to non-target aquatic biota. The present study investigated the effects of exposure to PDS on

Assessing Species Boundaries in the Freshwater Snail Family Physidae Using Coalescent-Based Delimitation Methods

Malacologia, 2022
A common issue for several freshwater snail families is the fact that, for some genera, the criteria for species delimitation are scarce, subjected to intraspecific and ontogenetic variation, or insufficiently discrete to allow a clear distinction ...

Molecular phylogenetics of central Canadian Physidae (Pulmonata: Basommatophora)

Canadian Journal of Zoology, 2008
The phylogenetic relationships of four nominal south-central Canadian freshwater physids ( Physa (sensu lato) skinneri Taylor, 1954, Physa integra (Haldeman, 1841), Physa gyrina (Say, 1821), and the endemic Physa winnipegensis Pip, 2004) were studied by analyses of combined partial sequences coding for mitochondrial 16S and cytochrome c oxidase (COI ...

Introduction to Physidae (Gastropoda: Hygrophila); biogeography, classification, morphology.

open access: closedRevista de biologia tropical, 2003
Physidae, a world-wide family of freshwater snails with about 80 species, are reclassified by progressive characters of the penial complex (the terminal male reproductive system): form and composition of penial sheath and preputium, proportions and structure of penis, presence or absence of penial stylet, site of pore of penial canal, and number and ...

Effect of pollutants on the oviposition and embryo development of the invasive snail Physella acuta (Gastropoda: Physidae)

Invertebrate Reproduction & Development
The varied types of detergent are considered as contaminants in the freshwater environment and interfere with the bio-ecology of macroinvertebrates. Based on this proposition, a study was conducted to examine the impact of detergents and acidic bathroom ...

Multiple unfolding states of glutathione transferase from Physa acuta (Gastropada: Physidae)

open access: closedBiochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2005
The equilibrium unfolding of the major Physa acuta glutathione transferase isoenzyme (P. acuta GST(3)) has been performed using guanidinium chloride (GdmCl), urea, and acid denaturation to investigate the unfolding intermediates. Protein transitions were monitored by intrinsic fluorescence. The results indicate that unfolding of P.

Ecological conditions for spread of the invasive snailPhysa marmorata(Pulmonata: Physidae) in the Ivory Coast

African Zoology, 2008
Physa marmorata, originally described from the Lesser Antilles, was introduced into Africa before 1900 and has previously been reported from Bénin, Togo, Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa. Here we show that it is also common in temporary ponds, fish ponds, dams and streams in the La Mé and Agnéby basins, southern Ivory Coast.

Use and Apparent Partitioning of Habitat by an Imperiled Springsnail (Hydrobiidae) and a Cosmopolitan Pond Snail (Physidae)

The Southwestern Naturalist, 2011
Abstract Our objectives were to determine which habitat variables had the greatest influence on densities of the Three Forks springsnail (Pyrgulopsis trivialis) and pond snail (Physa gyrina), and to examine interactions between the two species. We measured density and several habitat variables in Three Forks Springs and Boneyard Bog Springs in east ...
