HEART RATE REPRODUCIBILITY ASSESSED BY SURROGATE DATA ANALYSIS

open access: yesAnnales Kinesiologiae, 2012
Purpose: Combinations of head up tilt (HUT) and lower body negative pressure (LBNP) have been used to study syncope. Since HUT invokes initial, partly transient cardiovascular responses, in this work we employed the HUT phase (5 min in all subjects) to ...

Developing physiological computing systems: challenges and solutions

open access: yes, 2012
Today's computing systems provide all kinds of media output to the users including pictures, sounds, lights and visual animations; but user input is mostly restricted to narrow, time-consuming input modes such as mouse, touch screen or keyboard, even if ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Multi-scale computational modelling in biology and physiology

open access: yesProgress in Biophysics and Molecular Biology, 2008
Recent advances in biotechnology and the availability of ever more powerful computers have led to the formulation of increasingly complex models at all levels of biology. One of the main aims of systems biology is to couple these together to produce integrated models across multiple spatial scales and physical processes.

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated
