Evidence shows that climate change may have adverse effects on human health. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relation between Physiologically Equivalent Temperature (PET) and cardiovascular hospital admissions in Ahvaz. Distributed Lag Non-linear Models (DLNM) combined with quasi-Poisson regression models were used to investigate the ...

With considerably increased coverage of weather information in the news media in recent years in many countries, there is also more demand for data that are applicable and useful for everyday life. Both the perception of the thermal component of weather as well as the appropriate clothing for thermal comfort result from the integral effects of all ...

Influence of sky view factor on outdoor thermal environment and physiological equivalent temperature
International Journal of Biometeorology, 2014Sky view factor (SVF), which is an indicator of urban canyon geometry, affects the surface energy balance, local air circulation, and outdoor thermal comfort. This study focused on a continuous and long-term meteorological observation system to investigate the effects of SVF on outdoor thermal conditions and physiological equivalent temperature (PET ...

Calibration of the physiological equivalent temperature index for three different climatic regions
International Journal of Biometeorology, 2017In human biometeorology, the integration of several microclimatic variables as a combined index facilitates the understanding of how users perceive thermal environments. Indices, such as the physiological equivalent temperature (PET) index, translate the combined effects of meteorological variables on humans in terms of thermal stress or comfort and ...

We present a method to characterize variable thermal regimes in terms of an equivalent or effective temperature. Our method is based on a first order exponential transformation of a time series of temperatures to yield an exponentially-weighted mean temperature characteristic of the regime and independent of any particular species or end point.

Abstract Hot and humid tropical conditions in the coastal city have specific problems with the building thermal comfort. An important fact in creating thermal comfort is strongly influenced by two main factors that are the thermal environment and thermal balance of the human body.

The Effect of Relative Humidity on Physiological Equivalent Temperature in Hot Environment
Advanced Materials Research, 2013The important meteorological parameter affecting the human energy balance in heat strain condition is the relative humidity. The aim of this paper is to investigate the effect of relative humidity on human heat comfort. In this paper, the physiological equivalent temperature (PET) calculating program was corrected.
