Adrenomedullin: Potential in physiology and pathophysiology

Life Sciences, 2000
Adrenomedullin (ADM), a 52-amino acid ringed-structure peptide with C-terminal amidation, was originally isolated from human pheochromocytoma. ADM mediates vasodilatory and natriuretic properties through the second messenger cyclic adenosine 3',5'-monophosphate (cAMP), nitric oxide and the renal prostaglandin system.

Physiological overshoot and the compound action potential

Hearing Research, 1993
The sensitivity of the compound action potential (CAP) of the auditory nerve of the Mongolian gerbil (Meriones unguiculatus) to an added signal was studied as a function of the state of adaptation to a masker. The masker consisted of a train of tone bursts.

The physiologic properties and therapeutic potential of coherin

The American Journal of Surgery, 1979
Coherin, a peptide isolated from the bovine neurohypophysis, has been shown to be an effective therapeutic agent in post-gastric surgery physiologic obstruction and regional ileitis. Of twenty-four patients with post-gastric surgery physiologic obstruction, coherin relieved symptoms in twenty-three, a 96 per cent efficacy rate.

Physiological Basis of Sprouting Potential in Bermudagrass

Agronomy Journal, 2017
Core Ideas Large genotypic variation for sprouting of stolons was identified. Sprouting percentage was strongly associated with stolen diameter. Sprouting was related photoassimilate supply on an amount per node basis. The size and/or maturity of the axillary buds were also possible factors.

Chlorpromazine: A potential physiological teratogen

Experientia, 1977
Chlorpromazine, a drug commonly administered as an antiemetic during pregnancy, when administered prenatally to chick embryos, was associated postnatally with a ‘curled toe’ anomaly (ED 50% of 88 μg/egg for the 4-day-embryo).

Cardiovascular physiology misconceptions and the potential of cardiovascular physiology teaching to alleviate these

Medical Teacher, 2013
Misconceptions are mental models of phenomena that are at variance with accepted scientific models of these phenomena. The goal of this study was to investigate the prevalence of some misconceptions among students about cardiovascular physiology and to evaluate the effectiveness of cardiovascular physiology teaching in alleviating these misconceptions.A

The contraceptive potential of fertilization: a physiological perspective

Human Reproduction, 1994
Several separate events of the fertilization sequence (sperm capacitation, regulated sperm transport in the oviduct, sperm-cumulus interaction, sperm-zona binding, the acrosome reaction, zona penetration, gamete fusion) represent points at which conception might be preventable. Each is considered variously with reference to its biological significance,
