The ZmCOP1s–ZmCOL3 Module Enhances Late Flowering, Grain Yield and Grain Quality in Maize
ABSTRACT Flowering time is a key determinant of yield and regional adaptation in crops and is largely controlled by light signalling. In this study, we identified two maize orthologs of Arabidopsis CONSTITUTIVE PHOTOMORPHOGENIC 1 (COP1), designated ZmCOP1a and ZmCOP1b, which activate light signalling and reduce plant height. Loss‐of‐function mutants of

Interaction of Biliverdin Chromophore with Near-Infrared Fluorescent Protein BphP1-FP Engineered from Bacterial Phytochrome [PDF]
Near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent proteins (FPs) designed from PAS (Per-ARNT-Sim repeats) and GAF (cGMP phosphodiesterase/adenylate cyclase/FhlA transcriptional activator) domains of bacterial phytochromes covalently bind biliverdin (BV) chromophore via ...

Time‐ and space‐resolved transcriptional regulation in Arabidopsis thaliana
Transcript abundance patterns in time and space of kinases, E3 ligases and transcription factors in Arabidopsis thaliana demonstrate ample room for dynamic and specific regulation of metabolism and stress responses. Abstract General metabolism and responses to internal or external signals are tightly regulated in plants.

Hormonal networks involved in apical hook development in darkness and their response to light [PDF]
In darkness, the dicot seedlings produce an apical hook as result of differential cell division and extension at opposite sides of the hypocotyl. This hook protects the apical meristem from mechanical damage during seedling emergence from the soil.

Abstract Palmer amaranth (Amaranthus palmeri S. Watson) is a eudicot weed that is considered as one of the most problematic weed species. It is reported to overcome several environmental and management stresses under field conditions. Research was conducted in a growth chamber and greenhouse to evaluate the effects of different stress parameters such ...

Abstract Polyploidization has played a key role in plant genome evolution. Eragrostis curvula (Schrad.) Ness, a perennial forage grass species of the Poaceae family, is an excellent model for investigating genome duplication due to its natural variation in ploidy levels.

Enhancing the vase life of cut roses through spectral optimisation during greenhouse cultivation
Here, we examined three red‐to‐blue (R:B) light emitting diode (LED) ratios (90:10, 80:20 and 70:30) in two cut rose cultivars. All treatments enhanced photosynthesis, with 90:10 showing the strongest effects—raising chlorophyll, carotenoids, anthocyanins and carbohydrate levels, and extending vase life by up to 30%.

Flagellar Radial Spoke Protein 2 Is a Calmodulin Binding Protein Required for Motility in \u3cem\u3eChlamydomonas reinhardtii\u3c/em\u3e [PDF]
Genetic and morphological studies have revealed that the radial spokes regulate ciliary and flagellar bending. Functional and biochemical analysis and the discovery of calmodulin in the radial spokes suggest that the regulatory mechanism involves control

The role of local and remote amino acid substitutions for optimizing fluorescence in bacteriophytochromes: A case study on iRFP [PDF]
Bacteriophytochromes are promising tools for tissue microscopy and imaging due to their fluorescence in the near-infrared region. These applications require optimization of the originally low fluorescence quantum yields via genetic engineering.

Partial Proteolysis of Rice Phytochrome: Comparison with Oat Phytochrome
Phytochrome was isolated from etiolated rice seedlings (Oryza sativa L.) by slight modification of the procedure for oat phytochrome. Spectral data of rice phytochrome are comparable with those of oat and rye phytochrome. Controlled proteolysis with endoproteinases Lys-C and Glu-C yielded defined fragments some of which were different for Pr and Pfr ...
