Gene regulation by phytochrome

Trends in Genetics, 1988
Abstract Many responses of plants to phytochrome involve alterations in gene expression. Recent studies with transgenic plants as an expression system have led to the identification of cis -acting elements that mediate responses to phytochrome and light.

Primary Reaction of Phytochrome

Nature, 1971
MANY aspects of morphogenesis in higher plants are regulated by phytochrome1,2, but the mechanism of its action is still a subject for controversy3. By “primary reaction of phytochrome” we mean the first reaction in which PFR, the physiologically active species of the phytochrome system which absorbs far red light, becomes involved after its formation (

Spatial distribution of phytochromes

Journal of Plant Research, 1997
Phytochromes are chromoproteins which mediate several light responses in plants. Phytochrome proteins are encoded by a gene family which is currently being characterized in several plant species. Analysis of type-specific mutants of two well-characterized members of the family, PhyA and PhyB, indicates that these proteins have distinct functions.

Vibrational spectroscopy of phytochromes and phytochrome-related photoreceptors

2015
In the present work an integral vibrational spectroscopic approach was applied to investigate the mechanisms of the photoinduced processes in phytochromes. These photoreceptor proteins bind an open-chain tetrapyrrole as a cofactor. Mainly classified in canonical (plants), prototypical (bacteria, fungi), bathy phytochromes (bacteria) and ...
