The interaction between strigolactones and other plant hormones in the regulation of plant development

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2013
Plant hormones are small molecules derived from various metabolic pathways and are important regulators of plant development. The most recently discovered phytohormone class comprises the carotenoid-derived strigolactones (SLs).

Novel roles of sulfur metabolism in stress‐controlled stomata aperture regulation

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Stomatal closure allows plants to conserve water by reducing transpiration during drought. Surprisingly, the assimilation of the macronutrient sulfur is intimately connected to the drought stress response. This Tansley insight will only briefly touch on the general impact of sulfate assimilation on the production of drought‐response metabolites.

Auxins and cytokinins : the role of subcellular organization on homeostasis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Plant hormones are master regulators of plant growth and development. Better knowledge of their spatial signaling and homeostasis (transport and metabolism) on the lowest structural levels (cellular and subcellular) is therefore crucial to a better ...

Abscisic Acid and Gibberellins Antagonistically Mediate Plant Development and Abiotic Stress Responses

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2018
Phytohormones regulate numerous important biological processes in plant development and biotic/abiotic stress response cascades. More than 50 and 100 years have passed since the initial discoveries of the phytohormones abscisic acid (ABA) and ...

Defensive plats responses induced by Nesidiocoris tenuis (Hemiptera:Miridae) on tomato plants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In the last decade, biological control programs for greenhouse tomatoes and other crops have been successfully implemented using zoophytophagous plant bugs (Miridae), which can feed on both plant tissues and insect prey.

Autoactive MtDMI1 Reprogrammes Immunity and Development in Tomato via Ethylene Signalling

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Common Symbiosis Signalling Pathway (CSSP) underpins interactions between plants and microbes, yet its potential for crop improvement remains underexplored. Here, we investigated the gain‐of‐function mutant SPD1 (MtDMI1S760N), which constitutively activates the symbiotic signalling pathway in Medicago truncatula, by expressing it in tomato

Dissecting the Cell‐Type‐Specific Response to an Emerging Tobamovirus in Tomato Reveals Cultivar‐Dependent Involvement of Brassinosteroid Signalling

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Plant viruses drive widespread crop epidemics, yet the host plant responses across different cell types, particularly how these responses are influenced by cultivars with varying genetic backgrounds, including the presence of resistance (R) genes, remain poorly understood. Using tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV) and two tomato cultivars,

Abscisic Acid Insensitive 4 transcription factor is an important player in the response of Arabidopsis thaliana to two-spotted spider mite (Tetranychus urticae) feeding. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Plants growing in constantly changeable environmental conditions are compelled to evolve regulatory mechanisms to cope with biotic and abiotic stresses.

CpERF‐WRI1 Manipulates Ethylene Sensing by Regulating the Expression of CpERS1 and Fruit Ripening in Papaya

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Ethylene plays a crucial role in fruit ripening and is perceived by specialised receptor proteins embedded in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane. As an ethylene antagonist, 1‐methylcyclopropene (1‐MCP) binds to these receptors and delays papaya ripening, but improper use can cause ripening disorders.
