Weed pressure across sequential plantings of industrial fiber hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) produced in the mid‐Atlantic

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences &Environment, Volume 8, Issue 2, June 2025.
Abstract With the lack of herbicides approved for use in industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) production, it is important to determine which cultural practices can be utilized to manage weeds. With the general quick growth and dense stand to shade soil surface, hemp produced for fiber, when established early, has the potential to compete with weed ...

Pokeweed Antiviral Protein, a Ribosome Inactivating Protein: Activity, Inhibition and Prospects

open access: yesToxins, 2015
Viruses employ an array of elaborate strategies to overcome plant defense mechanisms and must adapt to the requirements of the host translational systems. Pokeweed antiviral protein (PAP) from Phytolacca americana is a ribosome inactivating protein (RIP)

Cloning and Characterization of Polyphenol Oxidase cDNAs of Phytolacca americana [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 1995
Two cDNA clones encoding polyphenol oxidases were isolated from a cDNA library constructed from a log-phase suspension culture of Phytolacca americana (pokeweed) producing betalains. The clones exhibit 93 and 86% sequence identity at the nucleotide and deduced amino acid levels, respectively. Both clones contain two copper-binding domains characterized

Characteristics of Some Fruiting Plant Species in Northwest Arkansas, and the Avian Assemblages that Feed on Them [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Fruits continue to be recognized as an important food source for birds in temperate areas, particularly during the fall migration period. More than 20 species of plants producing fleshy fruits are found in the Arkansas Ozarks.

Pokeweed Antiviral Protein: Its Cytotoxicity Mechanism and Applications in Plant Disease Resistance

open access: yesToxins, 2015
Pokeweed antiviral protein (PAP) is a 29 kDa type I ribosome inactivating protein (RIP) found in pokeweed plants. Pokeweed produces different forms of PAP. This review focuses on the spring form of PAP isolated from Phytolacca americana leaves.

Glycosylation of Stilbene Compounds by Cultured Plant Cells

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
Oxyresveratrol and gnetol are naturally occurring stilbene compounds, which have diverse pharmacological activities. The water-insolubility of these compounds limits their further pharmacological exploitation. The glycosylation of bioactive compounds can

Comparative Analysis of Two DOPA Dioxygenases from Phytolacca americana [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Product Communications, 2015
The comparative analysis of two Phytolacca americana DOPA dioxygenases (PaDOD1 and PaDOD2) that may be involved in betalain biosynthesis was carried out. The recombinant protein of PaDOD1 catalyzed the conversion of DOPA to betalamic acid, whereas DOD activity was not detected in PaDOD2 in vitro.
