A revision of the genus Sierraphytoptus Keifer 1939 (Eriophyoidea, Phytoptidae)
Zootaxa, 2009Comparative analysis of the eriophyoid mites of the genus Sierraphytoptus Keifer 1939 (= Fragaricoptes Roivainen, 1951) (Phytoptidae: Sierraphytoptinae: Sierraphytoptini) living on strawberry (Fragaria spp.) found that they are represented by two species: Sierraphytoptus setiger (Nalepa, 1894) (= Phyllocoptes setiger Nalepa, 1894) and Sierraphytoptus ...

Two new phytoptine species, Oziella virgata n. sp. and O. ovalis n. sp., were collected from the Russian Far East on sedges, Carex appendiculata (Trautv. & C.A. Mey) Kükenthal and Kobresia myosuroides (Villars) Fiori, respectively, and are described herein using conventional light microscopy (LM) and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM).

We report on a new phytoptid mite species, Oziella viscida n. sp., collected in Western Crimea from sea rush, Juncus maritimus (Juncaceae), and give supplementary descriptions of two rarely encountered nalepellid species of the genus Trisetacus from pines: T. confusus Livshits & Vasilieva, 1982 (in Vasilieva et al.

A new vagrant eriophyoid mite species, Setoptus tsugivagus n. sp. Chetverikov (Eriophyoidea, Phytoptidae, Nalepellinae, Nalepellini), is described from the needles of the western hemlock, Tsuga heterophylla (Rafinesque) Sargent (Pinaceae) in Vancouver, Canada. The new species can be distinguished from all other members of Setoptus by a distinct pattern

A unique set of plesiomorphic characters, and its association with an ancient gymnosperm, Araucaria araucana, have made Pentasetacus araucariae a putative relict of a lineage of gymnosperm-associated mites, itself possibly basal to all extant eriophyoids.

Hazelnut big bud mite, Phytoptus avellanae Nalepa, is one of the most harmful pests of Corylus spp. (Corylaceae) worldwide. Herein, we show that this species represents a complex of two cryptic species: one that lives and reproduces in buds causing their enlargement ('big buds') and drying, whereas the other is a vagrant living on leaves, under bud ...
