Agricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.Phloeosinus bark beetles may build up large populations in branch debris piles and stress giant sequoia trees. Covering debris piles with polyethylene sheeting increased the mean ambient temperature in piles and reduced beetle emergence. This was mediated by canopy structure, where ambient temperatures were further elevated under open canopies.
